PMO SURIGAO JOINS 3Q NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL

The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao participated in the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) in support of the government’s initiative on disaster preparedness.

Personnel from ports under the PMO’s jurisdiction such as the Port of Surigao, as well as those from the Terminal Management Offices (TMOs) of Lipata, Tandag, Dinagat and Siargao Islands, actively joined other agencies and offices nationwide in the online disaster preparedness exercise spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).

PMO Surigao’s Acting Port Manager Froilan Caturla, demonstrated the basic “duck, cover, and hold” technique yet urged everyone to strictly observe minimum health standards such as wearing masks and physical distancing. Originally scheduled last September 9 but was postponed due to typhoons Jolina and Kiko, the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is part of the continuing efforts of the OCD and NDRRMC to promote and put in place, adequate response mechanisms and procedures to ensure disaster preparedness and resiliency.
