DepEd SurSur orders massive info campaign vs NPA’s recruitment By 1Lt. Krisjuper Andreo J. Punsalan

BAYUGAN CITY, Agusan del Sur - The Department of Education (DepEd) Surigao del Sur Division based in Balilahan, Mabua, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, in coordination with the 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn) has issued an office memorandum order on Sept. 16, 2019 to elementary and secondary schools to reproduce the “CPP-NPA-NDF (Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front) HandsOff Our Children, Save our Youth” advocacy posters in large format to be displayed in all of the schools’ conspicuous areas. The memorandum order was officially made public on Sept. 20, 2019. This is in line with the DepEd’s continuous commitment to declare schools as peace zones. Anti-government groups discredited this initiative but the DepEd and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stood firm in their mandate to protect the youth from being victims of the Communist NPA Terrorist deceptive recruitment scheme.

“DepEd Surigao Sur Schools Division is the first in the education sector to officially issue this kind of memorandum in our area of operations. If I’m not mistaken, maybe even in the whole Caraga region and this is worth recognizing and emulating,” he said. “We are grateful because the military can only do so much. MinDA asks DILG, PNP help on ASF quarantine enforcement By Digna Banzon

DAVAO CITY The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has asked help from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the enforcement of quarantine measures for African swine fever (ASF) in the island. In a letter addressed to DILG Secretary Eduardo A単o and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Oscar Albayalde, MinDA Chairman Emmanuel Pi単ol requested the involvement of policemen to ensure stricter implementation of the ASF Quarantine Protocols.

The move to engage policemen in enforcing the ban came following reports that the ASF, which was earlier reported in provinces of Rizal and Bulacan, has spread to Pangasinan because a number of meat traders have continued trading despite the outbreak.

A MinDA press statement released on Tuesday said Pi単ol requested the immediate deployment of members of the PNP to various quarantine stations established by the local government unit amid reports that hogs, pork, and processed pork products are still being transported despite the temporary ban.

Pi単ol recalled that policemen and Army units were also engaged during the Avian Influenza (AI) outbreak in Pampanga and Nueva Ecija in 2017. He noted that the involvement of policemen and Army soldiers helped the government in preventing the spread of AI, which was placed under control in

Mindanao News I Empowering Communities Col. Consolito Yecla, commander of Task Force Davao (TFD), said the IDPs completed the initial screening and social investigation by assessing their general health and well-being after staying in this city for more than two years after the liberation of Marawi from Islamic State-affiliated militants two years ago. “While waiting for their turn for the interview and profiling by social workers from City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO), they were given free medical and dental consultations with free medicines and vitamins,” Yecla said. Hundreds of Maranao families fled and sought refuge in this city after a deadly firefight erupted in May 23, 2017 in Marawi City between the government forces and the Islamist extremists. Through a directive from City Mayor Sara Duterte, the TFD together with the CSSDO and City Health Office (CHO) implemented the intervention dubbed “Kalilintad 911 Program” to keep the IDPs from the influence of terrorist groups.

Commissioner Norman Baloro of the Office of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) stressed the need to look closely into the situation of the IDPs. Baloro said the IDPs will be first recommended to undergo the “Balik Probinsya” program that will entitle them to transportation allowance from the city government. In case return to their respective provinces is not feasible, they will be offered ways to make a living under the city’s Sustainable Livelihood Program.
