miami art district elon musk is moving tesla’s regional office to the new miami design district in addition, the sustainable versatility design awards has sponsored the contest to develop a modern sustainable structure featuring eastern white pine 11

innovative materials featuring eastern white pine as an integral design element, tesla’s new regional office also uses white concrete, steel and glass 13

sustainable versatility well managed forests provide a supply of beautiful, strong and infinitely renewable eastern white pine to inspire creative uses in tesla’s regional office 15

floor plan analysis tesla’s state of the art showroom is on display as galleries and offices rise from the central elevator transporting cars and guests from below ground to the observation deck over looking miami’s design district 17

section analysis the auditorium made from eastern white pine is nestled within tesla’s regional office core while providing premium acoustics it also serves as structure extending to the rear alley overlooking charging stations and new vehicle sales 19

kincaid’s cave

tanner trail kavasupai museum is located in arizona on the colorado river along tanner trail widely known for tanner rapids and its proximity to kincaid’s cave today, the trail is used by hikers and the native hopi tribe 23

kinkaid’s cave native hopi would use kincaid’s cave as a sacred ritual temple due to its remote location re-discovered by archeologists the cave was found with several ancient artifacts kavasuapai museum preserves the space with galleries in their natural setting 25


grand canyon region home to several native tribes the grand canyon region is centrally located beween several prominent cities where the colorado rivers supply its water source 26


grand canyon confluence the colorado rivers meet at the confluence where basalt creek runs south to tanner rapids and kavasupai museum utilizes its flow 27

grand canyon site located at the bottom of the grand canyon kavasupai museum can be seen from lipan point acess is restricted to chaperoned excursions by an experienced hopi guide the trip takes 2 days to experience all the surroundings have to offer 29

revealed waterfalls basalt creek flows into a tank and is dispersed throughout the museum the water falls naturally to cool spaces and create air flow then, it is stored and filtered into the colorado river 33

cavernous conditions seperated by a large light well the gallery spaces cantilever the colorado river while private shower bathrooms and service areas anchor to the basalt canyon edge 35


basalt amphitheatre utilizing found materials from the site an amphitheatre has been contructed using basalt crystal formations as a seating and gathering space for hopi storytelling and presentions the refracted light enters the sacred space for diffused lighting conditions 36

landscape connections natural materials emphasize kavasupai’s connection to the landscape as spaces reflect it’s hostile terrain and harness the power of light and water creating harmony and restoring balance to the hopi nation 39

urban catalyst an abandoned site excavation has inspired chicago’s newest tower located on the chicago river eye-m tower addresses detoxification revealing light and darkness from within the human body 43

systematic qualities the program is dedicated to education, natural healing and gardening eye-m tower comprises of professors, students and patients addressing local conditions of movement and scale

revealed infrastructure chicago is known for its vast underground network of tunnels and pathways eye-m tower uses the abandoned excavation by turning it into parking which connects visitors to the tower’s underground bath house and provides access to the park from under the highway 49

companion healing mother’s tower replaced tampa’s former dog track in memory of the fallen companions a raised walking platform has been reconstructed 61

the fountain of youth since its rediscovery sulphur springs has long been named the fountain of youth mother’s tower utilizes the vast system of springs to fill mineral rich pools above tampa’s skyline to heal patients naturally as mother intended 63

old quito itchimbia a new city plan has been developed called centro del mundo addressing urban density and sustainable practices the site redevelops an area outside of old quito 71

vertical circulation centro del mundo addresses vertical circulation organizing key elements while creating a dialogue between instutional, commercial, residential and recreational functions 73

paths and places utilizing the variability in conditions from natural contours to the existing infrastructure centro del mundo allows for creative expression and seclusion with the introduction of a city center, place of worship, plazas and markets 75

space between edge conditions direct water through centro del mundo creating the space between linking the network of districts with paths is also emphasized by creating private moments of rest within the bustling new city 77

urban density the new city plan regulates zones of density and activity to areas below an edge of trees which seperates commercial activity and mixed-use buildings from food forests, gardens and water reclamation to ensure centro del mundo’s longevity and sustainability 79

a settlement in the city quito is desirable because its distinctive landscape provides natural protection from neighboring communities as residents create public spaces embedded within each unique condition scaled for human occupation 81
