HAMPSHIRE LIBRARIES

Hampshire’s libraries remain a safe space and can help to support and enhance the lives of those living with dementia and their friends and carers.

Some libraries hold dementia events and drop-ins where you can receive advice and participate in group activities. Check the Hampshire Libraries website at www.hants.gov. uk/librariesandarchives/library for opening times, activities and events near you. Most staff and volunteers have attended Dementia Awareness sessions and have become Dementia Friends; they can be identified by their Dementia Friends badge.

Hampshire Libraries offers a range of materials and resources to help improve wellbeing and to stimulate discussion and memories. This includes a reminiscence collection, a variety of materials that have been carefully selected to support reminiscing. Visit www.hants.gov.uk/

for-all/dementia-resources to view the full range of dementia resources. Hampshire Libraries also has collections of digital resources including eBooks and eAudiobooks available on BorrowBox. Visit https://hampshire.borrowbox.com and search ‘dementia’.

The Home Library Service helps those who can’t access the library themselves due to ill health, disability or caring responsibilities. The service arranges for library books, audiobooks and other library materials of your choice to be delivered to you or a loved one’s home regularly by volunteers.

If you would like to borrow a particular title from Hampshire’s stock, including from the reminiscence collection (www.hants.gov.uk/

for-all/reminiscencecollection ), the Home Library Service can get it for you. Ask at your local library, call 0300 555 1387, or visit

www.hants.gov.uk/librariesandarchives/library/ services/access-for-all/homelibraryservice

After you have completed the online enquiry form, you will be contacted by phone or email to assess your eligibility. If you are eligible, you will be matched with a library volunteer who will be made aware of what you like to read. They will visit you and exchange the items you have borrowed usually at least once every four weeks. This is a free service. If you are unable to access any of the above information online speak to your local library staff who will be happy to help.
