HAMPSHIRE LIBRARIES

Please check the opening days and times of your local library before visiting (www. hants.gov.uk/librariesandarchives ). Appropriate measures are in place to ensure staff and public stay safe. Face coverings are encouraged as per Government guidance. Please limit visits to a maximum of 30 minutes.

Hampshire libraries remain a safe space and can help to support and enhance the lives of those diagnosed with dementia and their carers. Some libraries hold dementia events and drop-ins where you can receive advice and participate in group activities. Hampshire libraries also raise awareness by organising specific training sessions for staff; many have now become Dementia Friends and can be identified by a Dementia Friends badge.

Hampshire libraries also hold a reminiscence collection which includes carefully selected items that can stimulate and support reminiscence. These may be of particular use to carers working with people with dementia. The collection includes a special set of books called Pictures to Share which can help those with dementia bring back memories by looking at images that are part of daily life.

Finally, the free Home Library Service helps those who can’t access the library due to illhealth, disability or caring responsibilities. The service arranges for library books, audiobooks and playaways to be delivered to you or a loved one’s home regularly by our volunteers. Books are available in standard, large print and audio book formats. If you would like to borrow a particular title from Hampshire’s stock, the Home Library Service can get it for you.

Ask about the Home Library Service at your local library, call 0300 555 1387, or fill in the Home Library Service form at www.hants.gov.uk/

After you have completed the enquiry form, you will be contacted by phone or email to assess your eligibility. If you are eligible, you will be matched with a library volunteer who will made aware of what you like to read. They will visit you and exchange the items you have borrowed usually at least once every four weeks.
