Information for apprentices What is an apprenticeship?
Careerforce REAL Apprenticeships are workplace training programmes which respect, recognise and build on your skills and experience. With growing demands in the sector for more workers, those who develop their skill and knowledge are well positioned for long and rewarding careers. A REAL Apprenticeship will help you become a part of the solution to the increasingly complex demands for increased health and wellbeing outcomes within New Zealand communities, families and whanau.
The benefits of undertaking a New Zealand Apprenticeship with Careerforce Earn while you learn Have your existing skills and experience formally recognised Build upon your professional and practical skills Gain a Level 4 New Zealand certificate in your chosen career Increase your confidence through competence A structured pathway to a rewarding and long-term career in a range of growing sectors.
More about training... Before you begin your apprenticeship, Careerforce will sit down with your employer and establish your existing skills and experience. From there, your programme of study will ensure your learning covers the gaps in the knowledge required to complete the apprenticeship. A REAL Apprenticeship does not teach you what you already know and do! It’s designed to build upon the experience and knowledge you already have and use everyday in your job. Throughout your apprenticeship, there may be topics where you are able to show evidence of competency. In these cases the evidence will be used as part of the assessment.
Page 10
How will I learn? You will have access to MyPath (our online learning and assessment platform) allowing you to access your personalised learning anywhere, anytime. You will take part in interactive learning activities and complete some of the theory and theory assessments online. As part of the online learning, we have facilitated learning sessions and forums allowing apprentices to share and interact with their peers and our facilitators throughout New Zealand. Practical workplace learning and assessment is an essential part of your training and supports and builds upon the theory component of your training.
About your apprenticeship journey You and your workplace will be well supported throughout your apprenticeship journey. A Careerforce Workplace Advisor (CWA) will be assigned to you. This person will work with you from the very beginning, help you get started and will be there every step of the way - right through to your graduation. The journey includes understanding what changes this learning will make to your practices, and a goal-setting session. In addition to our team, you will have the support of your employer who is there to help you make the most of this opportunity. Through MyPath you will be able to connect with all the people who form part of your apprenticeship support team and your fellow apprentices.
What is expected of me? Be active and committed At Careerforce we talk about te toi pūkenga – it’s about the art of an individual attaining knowledge and skill. Every person sits at the centre of their own potential and the more committed and active you are, in your own training, the better the outcomes will be.
Be interactive The online learning platform allows you to interact with other apprentices and your support team. Use this added facility to ask questions, share your knowledge and support other apprentices like yourself. You are not on the journey alone.
You have a full support team around you and each of them is also committed to seeing you succeed. Be dedicated There may be times when you have to use your personal time for learning, but the more dedicated you are to achieving the very best from your training, the quicker and more valuable the experience will be for you. Your training schedule will help you stay on track and prioritise your training activities.
