Caremark (Slough & South Bucks) July – September 2014

My name is Denzil Josiah and I am the new Field Care Supervisor for the Windsor area - I took up the post in April 2014 after working part-time for Caremark last year. I worked as a civil servant for nearly 7 years in the Army which I thoroughly enjoyed and in 2010 I took on a Team Leader position in Basingstoke, working with children that have learning and behavioural difficulties.

I am extremely hardworking and love teamwork. I would say that I am approachable and a good listener. I enjoy playing and watching most sports but it is my young family which keep me on my toes! I would like to thank the Windsor Carers for helping me through my Training period! I couldn’t have done it without you and look forward to meeting the rest of the team in due course. Denzil

We are also delighted to welcome Helen, Sophie, Francesca, Sainabou, Suzie and Bal to Caremark as new CSW’s. Please make them all feel welcome!! ………………………………………………………………………………………..

Natalie Reed is doing a sponsored fun run on Sunday 7th September 2014 for Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital. Dig deep into your pockets and sponsor her for a good cause. Any donations should be made directly into the office and will be greatly appreciated!

All proceeds go to Harefield Heart & Lung Appeal.

We’ll Meet Again!!

On Friday 6 June 2014 saw the 70th anniversary of D-Day. There were commemorations on both sides of the English Channel. Second World War veterans were honored with commemorative services. The anniversary gave veterans an opportunity to share memories. Many of our customers were either involved, serving their country or present during “World War II.” One customer remembers the Second World War vividly and wanted to share his story. He also talked about his father’s experiences during the “First World War.” My father served in the First World War also referred to as the “Great War.” He served on the frontline trenches. His job was hard, don’t know how he survived, but he did! When the war was over, he returned home safely. Like most soldiers he found it hard to adjust to normal life. He would often wake up during the night sweating, shouting after a nightmare. He often talked about life in the trenches, the smell, infections, his close friend, some no longer with us. He had a dodgy leg, shrapnel in his leg from when he was caught short and bombed! He was very proud to have served his country! Listening to his war time stories, for most people quite horrific, but for me it inspired me to volunteer to be a soldier. I fought in the Second World War one of the bloodiest wars in human history. I had to grow up very fast, overnight I turned from boy to man. My experiences of the war were different than my fathers. But we shared the same important values for which so many young men and women were willing to make the supreme sacrifice: peace, freedom, brotherhood and the dignity of humankind.

During the war, I made lifelong friends, we vowed if we survived the war “We’ll meet again!”

Coffee Morning on Friday 12th September 2014. We are holding our own all day coffee morning. Come along for a get together, mingle with friends, colleagues and others. Bake a cake and bring it along to share.

Have a coffee and cake on us!!! Suffering from cancer is probably one of the hardest things anyone will ever face in their life. It can affect anyone – the young and old, the rich and poor, men, women and children. It is also a tremendous strain on the sufferer and their families and to all who are connected with the sufferer. Macmillan Cancer Support is holding “The Biggest Coffee Morning on 27th September 2014.”

More importantly we want to raise money to help change the lives of people affected by cancer. All donations will go to Macmillan. Please come along and make time for something that really matters!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CARER OF THE QUARTER JULY – SEPTEMBER 2014

We are pleased to announce that our winner for Carer of the Quarter is Rehana Khan. Rehana is a full-time Carer and has been working with us for 2 and a half years. Rehana has been awarded this accolade because of her excellent work ethic and dedication to her clients. Rehana works extensively with one particular client who is complex and has taken to it extremely well and it has not fazed her one bit! Rehana is a true team member and always helps out when we need cover in emergencies, her attendance record is superb and is not someone who calls in sick. On receiving this award Rehana commented that “she was shocked and very pleased to be recognised for her work.” We would like to thank Rehana for her on-going dedication and commitment shown to Caremark over the years and long may it continue!

Congratulations Rehana, you truly deserve it!

A central part of a Care and Support Workers role is effective communication to make and maintain relationships. We all need to develop a range of communication skills and be able to use them effectively to carry out various aspects of our job. On a daily basis we are communicating with clients, their relatives, as well as colleagues and outside agencies. Being respectful, consistent in your approach, patient in the way you listen and respond to people, will encourage them to trust and communicate with you. One form of communication which we all use on daily basis in our job role is, written. Recording information of all call visits on Customer Log Sheets. All information recorded on the Log Sheets should be written straight after care and support has taken place. Customer records should be written by the person that has carried out the care and should be authentic. All log sheets should contain the following: Customer’s name, log sheet number, date, time of arrival, an accurate record of the call visit, leaving time, carer/s name and a signature. All information should be written clearly, legibly, in a blue or black pen. If any information has been relayed to family, ICE or other agencies it should all be recorded in the log entry. All log entries should end with either – Nothing else required or no other requests. The use of “all ok on leaving” should not be used. For full details of Caremark’s Effective Communication policies please refer to your staff handbook. Alternatively speak to your supervisor or contact the office. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
