BOATING RESPONSIBLY!

Responsible boating is a major component of work in commercial fishing and enjoyment in recreational fishing. By adopting simple practices, we can navigate responsibly:

  • Watch your speed, particularly in shallow waters.

  • Do not discharge used water or polluting products into the sea.

  • Provide maintenance your boat frequently. This will prevent toxic substances from contaminating the sea.

  • Always have your safety equipment ready (e g life jacket, whistle, navigation lights, fire extinguisher, emergency positionindicating radio beacon (EPIRB)).

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

  • Check the weather conditions before going sailing.

  • Deposit your garbage in a container or bag, not in the sea.

  • Prevent your fishing equipment from drifting in the sea (e.g. do not leave fishing line in the water).

  • Protect marine life; keep distance between your boat and animals such as marine mammals (e.g. manatees, whales), among others.
