En la isla que siempre estuvo deshabitada, existía cantidad de ramas y troncos de árboles secos que al no descomponerse impedían el crecimiento de otras plantas nuevas.
The island had been uninhabited and there was lot of dead branches and tree trunks that did not rot, preventing the growth of other new plants.
Con una mentalidad de hace 50 años, se habría procedido a recoger la madera y quemarla en grandes montañas con la consiguiente aportación al calentamiento global y la desaparición de un montón de materia orgánica. Nosotros por el contrario hemos utilizado esa ingente cantidad de materia vegetal como soporte y base de los senderos a lo largo de toda la isla. Esos troncos que no se pudren con facilidad crean un entramado debajo de los senderos, que permiten la circulación natural del agua de lluvia.
With a mentality of 50 years ago, anybody would have proceeded to collect wood and burn it in big piles with subsequent contribution to global warming and the disappearance of a lot of organic matter. We have instead used that huge amount of organic material as a support base for the trails throughout the island. These logs that do not rot easily create a network of trails below the road, allowing the natural flow of rainwater.

El archipiélago de Bocas del Toro está ubicado al noreste de Panamá, próximo a la frontera con Costa Rica y fue descubierto por Cristóbal Colón el 6 de octubre de 1502.
The archipelago of “Bocas del Toro” is located northeast of Panama, near the border with Costa Rica and was discovered by Christopher Columbus on October 6, 1502.
Fue después lugar de descanso de piratas ingleses y más tarde en el siglo XIX, próspero sitio para el comercio del cacao y banano, hasta convertirse a principios del siglo XX en el hogar de la primera casa matriz de la United Fruit Company, cuando se vivían los tiempos prósperos del banano. Hoy quedan las viejas casas restauradas.
It was resting place of English pirates and later in the nineteenth century, prosperous place to trade cocoa and bananas, to become in the early twentieth century the home of the first headquarters of the United Fruit Company, during those banana prosperous times. Today there are the restored old houses.

Hace falta un intenso programa de capacitación a todos los niveles para crear conciencia de servicio en la gente. La población quiere participar en el crecimiento turístico pero necesitamos mucha capacitación para que puedan acceder y tener una inclusión en el mercado laboral.
We consider the possibility of extending to different populations the so called community tourism, which consists in highlighting values of tourism interest in each community, both the nature and the local agricultural production.
It takes an intense training program at all levels to create service awareness in the people. People want to participate in tourism growth but we need a lot of training so they can access and have a labor market inclusion.

La Ciudad de Panamá, capital del país, es una ciudad bella. En su centro es moderna, llena de rascacielos de cristal, centros comerciales, bancos, restaurantes y bares. En sus extremos es antigua e histórica. San Felipe y el Casco Antiguo son lugares encantadores con calles y pasillos de adoquines. Allí uno encuentra plazas en donde reposar frente a estatuas de héroes del pasado. En la plaza principal se puede visitar la Catedral Metropolitana y el Museo del Canal Interoceánico. A pocas cuadras se encuentran la Fortaleza de San Felipe y la plaza de Francia, donde tuvieron lugar las históricas negociaciones del canal entre Panamá y Francia, y luego entre Panamá y los Estados Unidos. Desde su paseo marítimo se pueden apreciar vistas del puente de las Américas y la entrada del Canal de Panamá por un lado y al otro la moderna ciudad de Panamá. Pequeños restaurantes, clubes y bares hacen del Casco Antiguo un lugar muy agradable para visitar. Es también interesante visitar las ruinas de la primera ciudad de Panamá la Vieja fundada en 1519. La ciudad de Panamá le ofrece todas las amenidades de una ciudad moderna y cosmopolita con hoteles 5 estrellas, casinos de cadenas internacionales, reconocidos restaurantes de cocina internacional e inmensos centros comerciales para disfrutar haciendo compras. Se sorprenderá por la cantidad de tiendas de reconocidas marcas que podrá encontrar. Además la vida nocturna es agitada, discotecas y bares le esperan para gozar de unas noches inolvidables.
Panama City, the capital, is a beautiful city. At its center it is modern, full of glass skyscrapers, shopping malls, banks, restaurants and bars. Outside it is old and historic. San Felipe and Casco Antiguo are lovely places with cobblestone streets and walkways. There you can take a rest in front of statues of heroes of the past. In the main square you can visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Museum of the Panama Canal. A few blocks away are the Fortress of San Felipe and the square of France, where historic negotiations took place between Panama and France regarding the Canal, and later between Panama and the United States.
