TURKS & CAICOS

The Turks & Caicos Islands offer what so many of us crave: escape.

This clutch of white sand cays and islands is not a place where giant cruise ships queue up to unload their human cargo all day long. It’s not a place where sozzled spring breakers party till dawn. It’s not a place where hustlers and hawkers give you hassle every time you leave your hotel.

Instead, you’ll find peace and relaxation. Deserted beaches, lapped by unimaginably clear and calm waters. No crowds, no hassle, no worries. Nightlife is low-key, the locals friendly and approachable. But don’t be fooled into thinking that a holiday here means

eschewing the luxury lifestyle; Turks & Caicos is home to some of the finest boutique hotels in the entire region.

For many visitors, the promise of privacy and seclusion is the main reason for coming here. But there is still plenty to do for those who wish to explore, with watersports galore and some of the best diving in the Caribbean. On land you might encounter iguanas, flamingos and hummingbirds, while those crystal clear waters are home to a myriad of marine species, including stingrays, sea turtles, bottlenose dolphins and humpback whales.

The multi-award-winning Grace Bay Club occupies a simply incredible beach, overlooked by a sleek glass-walled infinity pool. The hotel comprises 82 oceanfront suites divided between three distinct areas: the Hotel is a tranquil adults only space, the Villas are geared towards families, and the opulent Estate residences offer up to five bedrooms for larger groups. The Anani Spa, which takes its name from an ancient Lucayan word for ‘water flower’, includes two spa tents for open air beachfront treatments, while the Kid’s Town programme for 5-12 yrs keeps the youngsters occupied with eco tours, cave safaris, scuba lessons and more.

Part of the Grace Bay Resorts group, the stylish Rock House

opened in 2022, and will appeal to those looking for a truly exclusive escape. Set into limestone cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the hotel has something of a Mediterranean feel, and was inspired by the Hotel du Cap-EdenRoc in Antibes. There are just 46 cliffside studios, suites and villas, most with a private pool. The hotel is centred around a 100-foot infinity pool with daybeds and cabanas, and wooden steps lead down to the beach below. Vita restaurant serves sublime Italian dishes with a Caribbean twist, and the Sunset Bar is the place to enjoy a clifftop cocktail at the end of the day. Massage treatments are available, and there is a fitness centre with regular classes.

Eastern influences can also be felt in the cuisine at the Lotus restaurant, which is next to the oceanfront infinity pool. Other facilities include tennis courts, nonmotorised watersports and the Play by COMO Space for children aged 4-12 yrs.

At the furthest reaches of the

Turks & Caicos chain, that feeling of blissful isolation is dialled up even further. Ambergris Cay is a 1,100acre private island with its own airstrip, a 20-minute flight or twohour boat ride from Providenciales. Just 17 bungalows and nine villas are scattered across the island, each with a private pool, and you’ll be provided with a golf buggy to explore at your own pace. BERMUDA

On a luxury holiday to Bermuda, you’ll find a quietly sophisticated island, offering visitors some wonderful museums, art galleries, UNESCO World Heritage Sites the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art within the botanical gardens to wander amongst, a pristine capital city, Hamilton, and a host of outstanding golf courses to play. A pretty island with quaint cottages, complete with manicured lawns, rocky coves and pink coral-sand beaches, it’s also classed amongst the world’s top diving sites – hidden amongst the beautiful reefs there are over three hundred shipwrecks for divers of any experience to explore.

Warmed by the Gulf Stream and rich in history, Bermuda enjoys a lovely year round semi-tropical climate. Overall, Bermuda is 181 islands and islets, although the eight larger and populated islands are all connected by bridges. But, with 21 miles long and 1.75 miles wide at its widest point, Bermuda is easy to navigate; especially if you hire a scooter. Naturally, the glorious pink sandy beaches and warm sunshine make Bermuda a holiday haven for most of the year. But if you’re more into golf, walking and exploring then it’s worth coming during the winter when the climate is milder and the prices drop. Whenever you choose to visit Bermuda, you’re sure to love the casual elegance of

the place, the laid-back pace and the great friendliness of the people.

With an extensive mix of British, Portuguese, African and West Indian influences, Bermudian cuisine features traditional classics alongside local specialities. High-end restaurants, boutique hotels and luxury resorts serve some superb fusion dishes as well as international and Bermudan options. There’s every sort of restaurant in Bermuda, from romantic oceanfront restaurants and casual brasseries to British pubs and sushi bars from the modern The Pickled Onion and Barracuda Grill and the informal Aggie’s Garden & Waterside.

The balmy waters of the Sargasso Sea play host to colourful reefs and magnificent wrecks making Bermuda one of the world’s top diving destinations.

The island of Bermuda is entirely surrounded by reefs and those reefs caused many a captain to lose his ship while sailing on the famous gold runs from the Caribbean to Europe. As a result, there are almost as many wrecks as there are days of the year, many in shallow waters. Scuba diving is thus varied, offering opportunities for shallow and deeper dives. Learn to dive, or partake of the many different opportunities available. It’s even possible to do night dives.

OMAN ADVENTURES

There is a saying in Oman: “Better old silk than new wool.” And it is perhaps in this spirit that the country has chosen to eschew the extravagant glass towers, artificial islands and oversized shopping malls of its neighbours, trusting instead that discerning tourists will be drawn to Oman by its rich culture, epic scenery and warm hospitality. This is the real Arabia, a land of soaring mountains and plunging wadis, bustling souks and vast, empty deserts.

From sleek city hotels to Bedouin encampments under starry skies, Oman offers some incredible places to stay, and no shortage of ways to explore, whether it’s a cruise on a traditional dhow boat, a camel safari across burnt ochre dunes or a heart-pounding hike through the Jebel Akhdar mountains. You can kayak with dolphins, watch green turtles nesting in the early hours of the morning, and even paraglide from the top of a mountain. It’s a richly textured country, bursting with flavours: fragrant rosewater, slow-cooked shuwa over spiced rice, honey-soaked desserts and coffee served with cardamom. Ancient landscapes are dotted with apricot and pomegranate trees, sleepy smallholdings and crumbling forts.

The Omanis have followed a deliberate policy of low-rise development and traditional architecture, and our favourite hotels here remain, for the most part, those that we have been sending our clients to for many years. In the city of Muscat itself, The Chedi is the most desirable address in town, an elegant,

boutique-style retreat that’s a perfect base for exploring Oman’s low-key capital. Just 15 minutes from downtown Muscat lies Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, which offers two resorts in one: Al Waha is aimed firmly at families, while Al Bandar has a more adult ambience. Just across the bay is one of Oman’s newer hotels, the impressive Jumeirah Muscat Bay, which occupies its own private beach and opened in 2022. And no list of top Omani resorts would be complete without mentioning the Al Bustan Palace, a true institution with a real ‘Old Arabia’ ambience, as well as some of the best sports and leisure facilities in the region.

If you’re not sure which hotel to choose, then give us a call; we can’t wait to introduce you to this incredible country.

GRENADA

Grenada bewitches with low-rise boutique hotels, laid back living and a lush rainforest interior that opens out onto beautiful white beaches and the indigo waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It’s home to heady hot springs, bustling markets, spice plantations, volcanic crater lakes and the striking Seven Sisters Falls. Grenada is famously known as the ‘Spice Isle’, though this wasn’t always the case. Nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon were only introduced to the island during the British colonial period in the 18th and 19th century, but the excellent growing conditions and relative proximity to Europe meant that Grenada quickly became one of the world’s most important producers of nutmeg. This fragrant legacy lives on in the markets of the island’s capital, St George’s, and spices infuse everything from the fiery rum punch to the cuisine at the many world class restaurants. Our favourite places to dine in Grenada

include the open-air Oliver Restaurant at Spice Island Beach Resort, the Asian influenced flavours of Asiatique at Silversands, and celebrity chef Gary Rhodes’s eponymous restaurant at Calabash. You should also make sure you visit some of the more rustic local eateries, where you can try Grenadian staples such as oil down, a comforting one-pot stew, and the deceptively named lambie souse, which is a seafood dish centred on slow-cooked conch. Cocoa is another important crop for the local economy - don’t leave without trying The Grenada Chocolate. If you’re simply looking to while away days on beautiful sun-soaked beaches, the iconic bay at Grand Anse is a huge draw, lying on the western side of the island and perfectly sheltered. The lesser known but equally beautiful Morne Rouge, lined with sea grape and almond trees, is a great place to swim and sunbathe.

SAINT LUCIA

Impossibly picturesque, her jagged, jungle-clad peaks rising from the sea like dragon’s teeth, stunning Saint Lucia is rightly feted as the Caribbean’s most romantic island. Accommodation ranges from rustic rainforest retreats and boutique beach hotels to some of the most staggeringly luxurious resorts in the entire region. It’s no surprise that Saint Lucia is a favourite for couples on their honeymoon, but a host of high-octane pursuits and watersports also make it a great destination for the more adventurous traveller, as well as for active families looking for more than just a beach holiday.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SAINT LUCIA

THE PITONS

Start your exploration of Saint Lucia’s famous landmarks with the Pitons, two volcanic plugs on the southwestern coast of the island. Each Piton has its own name: Gros Piton (at 2,530 ft high) and Petit Piton (at 2,438 ft high). These landmarks actually inspired the creation of a local beer, Piton, a popular with locals and residents alike.

PIGEON ISLAND

If you want to combine history and nature in your visit, we recommend a visit to Pigeon Island. Sitting just off the northern tip of Saint Lucia, Pigeon Island was a separate isle until 1972, when a causeway linked it the mainland for easy access. Once home to the infamous pirate, Jamb de Bois, who used it as a base from which to ambush Spanish trade ships. These days, it hosts the fantastic Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival each April-May.

SOUFRIÈRE

Of all Saint Lucia’s most famous landmarks, Soufrière is one of the most recognisable. The town’s name comes from the sulfurous aromas created by the volcanoes. Explore the town square and get to know the culture of Saint Lucia (while shopping for a few souvenirs along the way), or head out to some of the natural wonders of the island.

EXPERT TIPS

Rebecca, Head of Sales:

“The dining scene in Barbados is some of the best in the Caribbean. My latest favourite is the stunning Local & Co, set on the northwest coast beach, offering a fabulous farm-to-table experience.”

ARUBA

The Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba lies 15 miles north of the South American coastline, benefiting from year-round sunshine, an average temperature of 32 degrees and a cooling breeze. Located outside of the hurricane belt, with a nine mile stretch of awardwinning pristine beach, turquoise seas, historic architecture and a Latin vibe; Aruba is a delightful alternative Caribbean experience. An adventure in Aruba is most often found in discovery of the unexpected. Visitors to the island delight in the amenities of world class hotels, stunning beaches and unspoiled nature. One of the islands greatest assets is its people, whose warm, welcoming smiles greet visitors at every turn. Arubans gladly share their island and its unique culture, which is well displayed in world renowned street art, art exhibitions and during a very joyous carnival season. Whether lounging on Eagle Beach’s powder-soft sand, exploring underwater wonders in clear turquoise seas, or dancing the night away in upscale clubs, Aruba encapsulates the essence of a sophisticated tropical retreat.
