THE SOLAR SYSTEM EVALUATION
After completing this Quest, students will be able to describe the 8 planets and will be an expert on one. They will be travel agents planning an intergalactic trip to space! Who is ready to travel?
INTRODUCTION Hello class! You are travel agents trying to get your clients to take a trip to the planets. But will your sales pitch be convincing enough for them to take the trip? You will be put into pairs and must each choose a planet to advertise. You will be making a brochure which must include the following information: Planet name, size, temperature, climate, moons, and neighboring planets. Be sure to make your advertisements visually appealing with pictures of your planets! Good luck!
TASK In your groups pairs, you will see links to each of the planets. Click on the links to read about the planets and select the one you want to advertise (Earth is not an option). Make sure you read about each one carefully so you know that it is the one you really want to pick. After reading about each, begin constructing your brochure making sure to include the following information: -Planet name
- Atmosphere
-Five additional facts about it
-Color
-Size
-Surface: what is the planet like?
-What makes your planet the best one to go visit?
-Distance from the Sun -How long its days are/how long its years are -Its neighboring planets -Temperature
Be sure to also include pictures of your planet and make your brochure visually attractive. After finishing your brochure, we will have a day where each group presents their planet to the class. Make sure to discuss with your group how you want to do the presentation.
PROCESS ACTIVITY 1 To begin your travel research, click on the planets below. Decide which one you want your clients to visit, and from there collect all necessary information to plan their trips! Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune
ACTIVITY 2 Make "SPACESUIT": Choose and Research Now that you understand the essentials elements and unique characteristics of the other planets of our solar system, it's time you make a spacesuit so your clients can travel in style.
To do: BASED ON THE PLANET YOU HAVE CHOSEN, complete a spacesuit that people will need while on this planet. State its special features and price.
Look at the following websites that give information on spacesuits to get ideas:
NASA'S Spacesuits Futuristic Astronaut ACTIVITY 3 Now you have all the information and planning done, all you have to do is make the holiday brochure. I recommend using a word brochure template. Look here for some help on using word to make a brochure.
Make sure you look at the evaluation sheet to make sure you tick all the boxes and get full marks!
