Before you begin your visit, you’re invited to stop at the Visitor Information Centre at 170 Bridge Street, downtown Carleton Place. We offer free maps, a public washroom, bike rentals, free fishing pole rentals, a souvenir shop, Cpt. Roy Brown exhibit and more! Parking is available behind the Information Centre.

Refresh this spring with views of the Mississippi River on the many trails in and around Town. Most trails are typically less than 3 km. Maps are available at the Information Centre.

If you prefer sightseeing or enjoying the trails on two wheels, you can rent a cruiser bike at the Information Centre from May to October.

The Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail and Trans Canada Trail converge in the core of downtown Carleton Place, making the town a great start or destination for your next cycling trip.

Bird watchers are welcomed to Carleton Place with plenty of access to the shores of the Mississippi River and Lake.

Between our heritage downtown and nature trails, photographers and photo enthusiasts of all kinds will enjoy the heritage and nature sights of our town.

If you prefer to hit the greens, bring your clubs to play any of the three golf courses in the vicinity of Carleton Place. Enjoy a cool drink afterwards on our downtown patios or craft breweries.

Exploring our local history at the Carleton Place & Beckwith Heritage Museum, has become an increasingly popular pastime for travelers seeking authentic and enriching experiences.

Visit the Museum, at 267 Edmund Street, Thursday to Saturday 10am-4pm. Enjoy some peace at the labyrinth and gardens in behind the Museum, a perfect spot for a picnic.

Interested in architectural history? Pick up a free self-guided walking tour map from the Information Centre, that’ll take you on two routes downtown, sharing the architecture and history of our oldest homes and buildings.

Discover Canada’s Mississippi

As the summer draws closer, enjoy the many activities on and along the Mississippi!

Carleton Place is a mecca for anglers of every inclination. Between the river and lake, the Mississippi shelters enough creeks, habitats, and spawning grounds for recreational and sports fishermen alike. Fishing tournaments are often launched from Riverside Park, where contestants fish for walleye, bass, or northern pike. Cast a line from the shore for bluegills, crappies, rock bass, large and smallmouth bass. Test your fly fishery skills and cast away the day in wadeable stretches near McNeely Bridge, Arklan Island, and Glen Isle.

Fishing pole rentals are available for free at the Information Centre. Make sure you have your fishing license if applicable, or enjoy licensefree fishing Mother’s Day weekend, May 11-12.

Getting on the water is easy in Carleton Place with several docks and the public boat launch available at the west end of Lake Avenue.

Did you know the Carleton Place

Canoe Club is the oldest, continually operating club in the country? You can see it at Riverside Park beach.

You can paddle your worries away for the day, with your own canoe, kayak or stand up paddleboard. The closest dock to the downtown core is located at the municipal parking lot, behind the Information Centre.
