Lobby Seating Rendered View Guests can sit and relax from a long trip in the lounge seating. The accent carpet sets the space apart from the rest of the lobby, while the bold colors tie the space together. Bold abstract paintings that include the vibrant hues of the Painted Hills are hung, and they bring life to the area as well as light up the space. The feature wall separating the lobby and retail space resembles the grain of wood to bring a natural aspect to the space.

THE PRIME BOUTIQUE HOTEL Objective Provide interior design services and documentation for the renovation of a boutique hotel in a downtown location of your choosing. The building location has a total of 18 levels. The renovation includes the lobby, restaurant and bar, retail space, guest level 6, rooftop terrace, and branding of all individual spaces.

concept Using the inspiration of the seven wonders of Oregon, The Prime creates an unique boutique hotel experience providing environments that will take the guests throughout the seven wonders of Oregon the moment they step through the door.

solution Located in the center of downtown Portland, Oregon, The Prime brings a lively presence to the vibrant city filled with young professionals. Inspired by The Seven Wonders of Oregon, The Prime provides guests with a new experience with each space that he or she takes. From entering the lobby with bold and vibrant colors to the rooftop with the essence of luxury, The Prime will leave guests awestruck from the beautiful destinations that are the inspiration for the spaces.

Guestsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; eyes are immediately drawn to the elevator feature wall that represents the bold and vibrant hues of The Painted Hills. The neutral quartzite tiles flooring contrasts against the custom accent carpet, and it creates a great transition from the reception and seating area. The Pâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; on each elevator brands the space even further and ensures the guests are at The Prime.

Front Entrance Rendered View

Guests are encapsulated by the grand entrance upon arriving at the Accretion. A feature wall greets them, and it captures the essence of the Wallawas. The living wall brings life to the space, and it is mirrored on both sides of the private dining area to draw customers in from each entrance. Rough textures surround the private dining to emulate the pebbly landscape on the mountains. Bold colors are accented throughout the space in contrast to the neutral hues.

Private Dining Rendered View When guests desire a more intimate dining experience, then they can sit in the private dining area where they are surrounded by three-dimensional walls that mimic the silhouette of the Wallawas. Pendant lights are suspended over each table to illuminate the enclosed area allowing privacy.

Bar Rendered View The fractured rock wallcovering on the back wall draws guestsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; eyes to the bar, where they are provided a drink from the bar designed to reflect the mountain peaks. Green fabric on the bar stools complement the living wall to provide a welcoming and refreshing atmosphere. Customers can sit along the back feature wall while they wait to be seated.

After a long day, guests can come experience The Coast in a whole new way. The luxury vinyl tile at the back entrance allows customers to arrive on a hard surface to mimic the beach landscape, and as they enter the lounge the carpet resembles the ocean water. The back-lit bar back with a bio glass bar top draw customers in to get a drink and relax. The mirrored ceiling and bold hues make guests feel as if they are under the ocean surface.

The Coast of Oregon is a remarkable feature of Oregon, making it one of the seven wonders of the state. Combined with rock cliffs and crashing deep blue waves, the Coast sits 363 miles long along the entire shoreline of Oregon. The name of the bar and lounge was extracted from the vast length of the coast. The 363 Bar and lounge portrays the deep blue waves interrupted by white crashes of waves. The bar exhibits the cliff of the coast overlooking the water. The wood to carpet transition acts as a representation of the land meeting the ocean water, but it also provides an efficient entrance with luxury vinyl tile flooring.

Exterior Hand Rendered View When approaching the exterior of Caldera, customers are welcomed with wooden planks extruding at various levels to create depth and resemble the uneven terrain of Smith Rock. The bold logo is flush against the glass wall so it is exposed to every person passing by. The collapsible bike racks allow customers and guests of The Prime to practice a green lifestyle and promote sustainablilty at The Prime.

Bike Display Hand Rendered View The bike display featured at the back of Caldera Outfitters contains the original 7 Bikes for 7 Wonders.â&#x20AC;&#x2122; The bicycles were custom designed by Oregonian artisans for the non-profit event for The Seven Wonders of Oregon.â&#x20AC;&#x2122; The event consisted of top cyclists around the world and is now on display in Caldera Outfitters for all visitors of Oregon to see. There are also bikes for guests to rent so they can experience The Seven Wonders for themselves.

Cashwrap Hand Rendered View Upon arriving at Caldera Outfitters, shoppers are greeted with mountainous features, such as a custom-built rockclimbing wall which serves as a display.

The guest rooms were inspired by the Columbia River Gorge with half of the rooms simulating the blue water, and the other half simulating the green land. The custom wallcovering ties in with the natural abstract paintings throughout the rooms.

Custom Wallcovering Over time, the velocity of a waterfall causes the water to carve deeper into the rock and continue to flow upstream. They create breaks in the rock which cause the water to flow in different directions down the formation, but only to come together and end at a unifying source. A land of natural contrasts between rain forest and desert, sea-level passage and alpine meadows, is the inspiration for the wallcovering. The bold, hand-crafted, water colors contrast with each other in order to differentiate the landscapes while merging them together to present guests with an experience all their own. The streams of vibrant hues provide the guests with an opportunity to decide the path in which to embark on the adventure of The Prime.

King Suite Rendered View Light woods are used in the guest rooms to keep the room warm and bright. Hand tufted area rugs lie beneath the beds to help with acoustics against the vinyl wood flooring.

A shallow reflection pool covered with teak wood decking maximizes space and provide an interactive experience for the guests. Curved sofas and greenery surround the pool to represent Crater Lake. The living wall acts as an accent while also dividing spaces.

Lobby Reception Rendered View In the lobby, guests are enveloped in roots that are made from sticks. The roots painted on the floor serve as a way-finding method for customers to navigate throughout the space.

SWEETGUM BREWING CO STARKVILLE, MS

Objective Complete a design renovation for a microbrewery with a team of architecture, interior design, building construction science, and graphic design students.

concept Sweetgum Brewing Company is a staple of the local business movement in Starkville, adding to the local pride in the form of locally brewed beer, standby Amber Ale. Providing Sweetgum Brewing with a facility located in Starkville not only benefits the ongoing business, but it also provides an opportunity to expose the community to the brewing process as well as the brand itself. The company began with an amber ale, and keeping Sweetgumâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s beginnings as the main focus is the goal.

solution The team developed a design that traces back to the start of the company. The entrance was moved to the north side of the building in order to draw traffic in from Main Street, and an open floor plan was created to allow the company to grow, as well as to create a space that could be multifunctional if the company outgrows the existing building.

Exterior Rendered View The concept starts with a pathway that resembles a branch leading to the entrance. A grass area is provided to promote a relaxing atmosphere which leads up to a pergola, where customers can enjoy their drink while staying out of the direct sunlight.

Wayfinding is created by using roots painted on the floor to direct guests. The Brewing area is designed so that the guests are exposed to the brewing process, and they experience the process. The brewing process is stationed in the center with shelves that contain all of the products and ingredients surrounding.

Tasting Room Rendered View The roots lead back to where it all began, and the final place the guests experience is the tasting room where they will sample the beer that the company produces. In the corner of the space, there is a sculpture made from sticks that were bent in order to form this root system that stretches over the tasting room and lobby. Keeping cost in mind, the sculpture is being funded by the city of Starkville and Mississippi State University in order to expose the people of Starkville to the microbrewery as well as bringing people together to experience what it truly means to â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;get back to your roots.â&#x20AC;&#x2122;

Product Display Rendered View Distressed wood is used throughout the entire space in order to represent the rich history of Mississippi State. The metal trusses help disguise the uneven ceiling and brings a modern contrast to the wood.

Working with the owner of the MAFES Sales Store, renovate the given space to meet the ownerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s needs. Create a design that implements a direct flow of traffic in and out of the store.

concept The redesign of the MAFES Sales Store envelopes the user in the history and tradition of Mississippi State. North and South Farms, the forestry department, and the various fields of engineering are what drive students to Mississippi State University, and the contrast of these is the driving force for this design.

solution Each aspect of the store is a testament to the school. The finishes relate back to the days of the past where modest beginnings sprang from North and South Farms and are contrasted by the modern metallic finishes of the industrialization of the present and future. The MAFES Sales Store showcases all of the products and intellect that Mississippi State has to offer the community and state.

Managerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Office Rendered View The manager office is surrounded by a removable DIRRT wall system so that the company can continue to grow. Behind the desk, glass slots are provided that can also be accessed through the storage room.

Reception Rendered View NEXTERS are engulfed by the stars with the ceiling installation of acoustic panels. The panels are angles so that they resemble the points of stars, and they are positioned at various heights. The wall located to the right in this rendering contains an interlocking wall panel in order to bring texture to the space. On the left wall, there are sound absorbing fiber felt stars that also serve as storage for magazines and books. The NEXT logo is displayed boldly against the white wall to add contrast and allow the guests to be drawn into the space searching for their NEXT path.

Objective Using the given space, create an environment to afford entrepreneurs access to resources, expertise, and an environment that fosters creativity.

concept There are believed to be so many constellations in the sky that are all different, but coincidentally constellations are not actually real. They are what people form in their mind and how they perceive the stars. In the past, they were a way for people to understand location and direction. Just like constellations, NEXTERS collaborate with new peers every day. With this design they can adjust how they learn by forming new patterns with the furniture in order to complete their own path. Just as the Ancient Greeks used the stars to determine direction, the constellations imbedded in the design of NEXT point the way through the space with strong geometric lines. NEXT is designed for people to define their own perception of the space and make it their own.

solution A diverse working environment attracts consultants and maintains the organizationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s client base. The space delivers a message that proves to the consultants their viability for entrepreneurs as well as supports the behaviors the organization expects from its culture. With the use of Steelcase products, a range of working environments allows teams and individuals choice and control.

The open office elevation shows off the ceiling installation. The different heights of the acoustic panels can be seen. The elevation below of the work cafe features a wall for NEXTERS to pin up their work and inspire others. There is a project table that is placed in front of the board for small meetings to be held throughout the day.

Work Cafe Rendered View On the path of the NEXTERS is the work cafe, where they can unwind and enjoy coffee or even have a casual meeting over lunch. A wall located next to the project table allows NEXTERS to pin up their work in order to brainstorm their ideas with others or just showcase work. Constellations have been incorporated into the ceiling design to show the guests that they are where they belong. This location on the NEXTERS path will leave them relaxed and ready for the NEXT adventure.

In-between Space Rendered View

Between all of the long meetings and busy guests, these in-between spaces are integrated throughout the design to give NEXTERS a place to regroup before meetings or just catch up with fellow peers. Glass geometric designs separate the spaces, and just as constellations, it questions the difference in what is real and what is not. The geometric design on the wall is comprised of BAUX Acoustic tiles that are applied to the surface in order to catch the sound that bounces off the glass. This gives the NEXTERS the perfect place to settle until they are ready for their NEXT path.

Open Office Rendered View Collaboration begins in the open office where the NEXTERS can work amongst the stars with the skylights and the acoustic panels incorporated into the ceiling. Bright, patterned fabrics are used to encourage creativity, and white boards are out for anyoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s taking to express thoughts and ideas. With a variety of furniture, the NEXTERS are able to choose how they want to work. This design is all about the user. The NEXTERS create their own path. The possibilities are endless. All they have to do is take the NEXT step.

Lobby Rendered View Modular seating was selected for the lobby to mimic circular formations that cannot be broken. The acoustical panels and reception desk resemble the waves of a flag to add movement to the space and reflect a sense of unity.

Objective Using the given space, design an environment for a call centerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s main headquarters that hosts employees and also services clients.

concept Boundless is a non-profit adoption agency that provides families and single parents with the opportunity to adopt children and receive 24/7 support which includes educating the new parents as well as counseling before and after adoption. They also provide legal services and scholarships for the adopted children to have an education. Boundless believes there is beauty beyond all disaster, and this can be seen in the four countries that boundless supports: Congo, Moldova, Afghanistan, and Haiti. These are some of the poorest countries in the world, but with the help of Boundless, these countries can come together seamlessly for a common purpose.

solution This international adoption agency creates a sense of unity among diverse groups of people, and it provides privacy for the intimate calls between prospective parents and children as well as for the employees. The glass walls throughout the design ensure the concept of no division among anyone. The Boundless logo gives off the innocence of a child while representing the main colors of all four countries.

Call Center Rendered View The employee desks are Airtouch desks from Steelcase that are height adjustable to better meet the needs of the employees. Clouds in the shape of each country represented are stationed above sections of desks to distinguish which employees are over that countryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s matters. The custom textile is incorporated on the employee task chairs.

Break Room and Lounge Rendered View Colorful lounge seating is arranged strategically so that employees can socialize with others or have a more private conversation. The oversized lighting gives a more intimate feel to the space. A glass wall with all of the continents etched on it separates the lounge and break room. The round bar continues along the boundless concept, while providing various types of seating.

Dermatology Clinic Waiting Room Rendered View Brown and Blue Armstrong Bio-Flooring is used to contrast the structure of the aqueducts and the water it contains. Wooden chairs are used as the main seating and sofas are scattered throughout the space to soften the harsh wood. A bold, Astek wallcovering is used on the welcome desk wall to direct patients where they are to go first.

arroyo Objective Design for the uses of a medical clinic, specifically focusing on the needs of a Dermatology Clinic and Spa. This project is meant to accommodate many professionals at one time.

concept Romans were the first people to contribute to public health to people by building aqueducts which brought fresh water into Rome and a sewer system which improved the health in the city. The structure of an aqueduct is strong to contain the water to a specific path, and this is mimicked in Arroyo Dermatology Clinic and Spa.

solution Located in Los Angeles because of the great aqueducts located there, the prosperity of the aqueducts and the flowing water are seen throughout the design of Arroyo Dermatology Clinic and Spa. The entrance serves as the anchor or main structure of the design, and the spaces continue to flow from both sides.

The large treatment room is available for couples to relax and get a massage. The soft, cool blue painted walls contrast with the dark wooden frames and window treatment to simulate land versus water.

Spa Quiet Waiting Room Rendered View This area is located in the center of the design for easy access to guests. Vertical glass allows light into the space and creates a water effect, while giving off a peaceful atmosphere. Lounge seating is provided to make guests feel relaxed. Baux acoustical tiles are used to help with noise.

Objective The Strohm family is building a log cabin in Kosciusko, MS that will be featured as a part of the TV series, Cabin Fever. The Interior Design Program at Mississippi State University has the opportunity to take part in the design process of this project. The interior design students will be working with the interior that is provided and specifically focus on the ceiling design. The cabin features a cathedral ceiling. The students must use the materials provided, corrugated tin and wood, to create a design for the ceiling. One of the ceiling plans provided will be used in the design of the cabin.

concept The goal of these designs was to integrate both the corrugated and wood in a way that complements each other, the cabin, and the natural aspects surrounding it.

solution Three different designs were created to reflect the desires of the client while keeping with the rustic aspects of the cabin. A white wash paint was applied to the wood to lighten the heaviness of the beams.

Flattened Ceiling Plan

Ceiling Design 1 Since the ceiling detail is predominately flat, curved logs are incorporated in the design to contrast the straight lines and steeply pitched ceiling. Corrugated tin is applied directly to the ceiling and runs with the roof pitch to enhance the height of the space. Thinner beams are also integrated into the tin design in order to divide the tin and create clean lines.

Ceiling Design 2 The goal of this design was to mirror the symmetry of the cabin and elongate the height of the ceiling. The trusses form an â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Xâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; shape and provide an interior frame for the cabin. Corrugated tin is applied directly to the ceiling and the grooves are placed lengthwise in order to continue along the line of the trusses.

This ceiling design involves the idea of natural versus industrial being combined in a way that enhances the contrast between them. In order to provide variation in depth and length, cedar logs that are curved on one side are being incorporated into the design while the tin is applied directly to the ceiling. The sheets of tin help reflect light into the space and resemble skylights.
