Downtown Los Altos is undergoing redevelopment to cater to its young, tech-savvy set, and innovative family fun is on the menu. In keeping with their quaint community restaurant, Bumble, The Alley Burger House owners Mary and Brian Heffernan will focus on locally sourced produce and the highest quality ingredients, putting an upscale twist on the traditional burger joint.

Food innovations at The Alley House will be mirrored in the building’s design, which converts an existing 12,000-square-foot building into a modern, rustic dining room. The first two floors will contain an Entre-Prises climbing wall, a two-lane bowling alley, and a milkshake bar. The basement’s full, mixology-inspired bar and karaoke stage will give its adult visitors a tempting alternative. Turner Exhibits out of Lynwood, Washington, will provide “kinetic architecture” in the form of a two-story-high mechanized operable window.

This new mixed-use, 510,000-square-foot building is the first high-rise construction project in downtown San Jose since the recession. It is situated at Santa Clara and Market Streets, the area’s primary intersection. C2K is providing architecture and interior design for the project on behalf of KT Properties and Essex Property Trust. With 23 stories and three basement levels, the building contains 312 apartments and seven floors of parking, as well as a leasing office, residential lobby, and retail spaces along the ground floor. Its skin features an Allen unitized window wall system that deploys spandrel and clear glass in a randomized pattern. A strip of LED lighting frames the entrance canopy, then travels straight up the façade to frame the parapet, emphasizing the structure’s verticality. Due to its height and relationship to San Jose airport flight paths, the project required Federal Aviation Administration approval. It is also immediately adjacent to a historic property, which required local historic form review. Construction is underway. Anticipated opening is December 2014. sketches

C2K Architecture is designing the Silvery Towers Apartments on behalf of KT Properties. The development is located in downtown San Jose. It will feature two high-rise towers and a retail podium that will extend the San Pedro Square arts and entertainment district.The site is located next door to the historic Peralta Adobe and Fallon House. In an effort to highlight and integrate with these much smaller structures, where new meets old the St. James’ 20- and 22-story towers will be tempered by intimate courtyards. The $200 million project will bring 1,100,000 square feet of apartments, retail, and parking to San Jose’s revitalizing downtown. We anticipate its completion in 2016.
