MUSEUM FOR MACHINES VERONA, ITALIA | MUSEUM FOR HISTORIC MACHINERY | ARCH 3553 | PROFESSOR: STEVE QUEVEDO

AN URBAN INTERVENTION PROJECT, ON THE EXISTING RUINS OF THE ANCIENT VERONA CITY WALL. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT WAS TO TREAT THE BUILDING AS A PIECE FROM A KID OF PARTS THAT INCLUDED ALREADY EXISTING URBAN ELEMENTS, LIKE AN ANGIENT CITY GATE, ST. GIORGIO CHURCH, AND AN OLD MOTTE. THE SOLUTION WAS TO CREATE A WALL BUILDING THAT WOULD CELEBRATE THE OLD WALL RUINS AND WOULD INCORPORATED THE RUINS AS A PART OF THE BUILDING.THE MASTER PLAN ALSO INCLUDES GALLERY SPACE FOR THE DISPLAY OF ANGIENT MACHINERY, AN AMPHITHEATER, A GARDEN OF RUINS, AND AN OBSERVATORY TOWER.

THE CONCEPTUAL IDEA IS BASED ON THE SHIFTING OF VOLUMES. THERE IS A SHIFTING OF SPACES THAT CAN BE SEEN IN PLAN AS WELL AS IN SECTION. THE ROOMS OF THE HOUSE WRAP AROUND A VOID IN THE MIDDLE WHICH IS AN INDOOR/OUTDOOR PATIO THAT CONNECTS EVERYTHING AND IT BECOMES THE MAIN SPACE IN THE HOUSE.
