PERSONAL SUMMARY

My name is Carlos Bustos, I’m 29 years old and I was born in the USA, but I´ve lived in Chile since the age of 7. In 2010 I received my Architecture degree from Universidad Católica de Chile (Pontifical Catholic University of Chile), the most prestigious University in the country. Since 2011, I’ve been working at Orlando Gatica’s Studio (www.orlandogatica.com). He’s a very prestigious and well known Chilean Designer, with an experience of more than 14 years and over 3.000 projects. The Studio is focused in two main areas: creating and producing custom made furniture with original designs for our very exclusive clients; and interior Architecture and Decor for grand variety of spaces such as restaurants, hotels, offices, stores, hospitals and showrooms. I’m the Head of the Interiors Department, in charge of managing each project, organizing the work and people involved, with an active participation in the conceptualization and materials chosen for each project, meeting with the clients in order to keep them updated and of course, supervising the construction site. I’m also the Studio Photographer (www.behance.net/carlosbustos). I got married six months ago, and with my wife we are looking forward to have the opportunity of going to the States to live, and hopefully, settle there for a long time. Thank you very much for your time and consideration, I really appreciate it.

CAREER OBJECTIVE After working for nearly four years in the field of Interior Architecture and Design in Chile, I would like to continue my learning abroad, hopefully in the United States since I’m a Citizen. I’m very interested in learning more about decoration, lighting design and everything related to the final finishes and every single detail that makes a project unique. My experience as head of the Department of Interior Architecture has given me a lot of valuable tools in order to manage the people involved, organize the work and delegate each task related to a project development. I have a lot of experience working on all stages of projects from inception to completion. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE May 11 - Pres

UNIVERSITY Projects

1 San Antonio’s Concert Hall The project is located on a steeply sloping site in the city of San Antonio, Chile. The main objectives were to have open views towards the sea (west), and in the opposite way, facing east, the building is closed to the residential area. It also seeks to frame different views as the visitor walks by the project. The main building containing the music hall is located on the lower ground of the site, and the foyer is

is geared directly to the west to enjoy the harbor view. This operation allows the east building to also enjoy this view. The ceiling of the auditorium is designed with a steep slope to meet the acoustic requirements of space, and also to replicate the slope of the site. Finally, the space between both buildings is transformed into a public park, connecting the lower part of the city (the port), with the hills (residential area).

HOSPITALITY

8 This boutique hotel with 24 rooms was developed in an old building in the Lastarria neighborhood, Downtown Santiago. The main concept was to protect the architecture of the building (classic Chilean style), and transform the furniture into an “installation inside each room, making it the only decor element. That way, when the passenger arrives he will notice the old building, but with modern and contemporary details.

BELLAS ARTES HOTEL

The lighting and furnishings were custom-made for the project to create a design concept founded on simplicity, function but also luxury. The result is a sober architecture an interior design project despite the absence of excessive decoration. I was the project manager, part of the design team (concept + furniture development) and the lighting designer. Total Area: 1.150 m2

9 LAS CONDES CLINIC

ClĂnica Las Condes is one of the most important private clinics in Latin America. We were asked to generate a new clinic concept, which is closer to a hotel comfort level, but without leaving aside the hygiene standards required in a medical facility. Our inspiration was based in the design of a yacht, where you have to optimize the use of space and at the same time

give it a cozy and modern look. The project achieves this goal, combining comfort, elegance and efficiency in all the spaces we had to redesign. I was the Project Manager and also the Lighting Designer. Total Area: 1.890 m2

10 New Admission + Waiting Areas CLC just finished the construction of their fifth medical building, design by RTKL. We were asked to do the interior design of the new admission and waiting areas. The concept that inspired us was the VIP lounges at airports, looking for patients and their families to feel comfortable and welcome at all times.

LAS CONDES CLINIC NEW ADMISSION NEW WAITING AREAS

The richness of the interior spaces derives from the mixture of textures and materials, which results in a sequence of spatial experiences. I was the Project Manager and also the Lighting Designer. Total Area: 1.150 m2

13 SHOWROOM

This project was about decorating two showroom apartments in the city of Calama, Chile. The major challenge was the limited budget, so we had to be creative and seek for good and nice products, but with cheap prices. In order to give freshness and radiance to each apartment, warm and light colors were chosen.

APARTMENTS

We mixed materials such as marble, with colorful paintings and wooden chairs and rustic stools. The result is a very modern and cozy space, where you can see both classic and modern objects.

RETAIL

14 MINI BOUTIQUE STORE

This project was developed side by side with the Chilean architecture office Europa19. The sales focus of this store was on retail products more than cars. Based on that, the main target was to expose these products in such way that the client would feel he was entering in a jewelry store. Sober, neutral materials and dark colors were selected,

highlighting the products for sale and their colorful designs. The result is a shop with a youthful, cheerful and welcoming vibe to the customer. I was the Project Manager, Furniture Designer and developed the lighting concepts. Total Area: 185 m2

15 HYUNDAI CHILE

Automotores Gildemeister is the official distributor of Hyundai Motors Company in Chile, and it’s also the #1 car seller in our Country. The challenge was to create the first “Premium” Showroom concept and store. Our friends from gt_2P (www.gt2p.com) helped us developing all the crazy ideas we had. Using their knowledge in digital crafting and parametric design, we created over each exposed car giant lamps (diameters from 240-780 cms); and for the bar and conversation area, we designed an “amoeba” which,

as a cave, shelters this part of the showroom. Its shape is inflated to the center and falls towards the edges to strengthen its interiority. From outside it is possible to see its bright side and the wood inside, making a mix of a stunning form with a cozy interior. I was the Project Manager, Furniture Designer and developed the lighting concepts. Total Area: 590 m2

CULTURAL

16 This project was requested by the Chilean Government. It was the first CELAC-UE summit of its kind, and there were more than 60 Presidents invited to Santiago, Chile. It was a big challenge because we had to cover more than 15.000 m2 with interior design and also coordinate and manage the construction. The design concept was based on showing Chile as a developed Country, with an unique landscape and using it’s variety of raw materials and export products to decor the

different areas (copper, native woods, wine, fruits). We also used high tech image projection (mapping), in order to give versatility to each space. I participated in the creative process, developing the interior design of several areas, and also photographed the results, for press release and web purposes. Total Area: 16.200 m2
