CARLOS PEÑA
With over ten years of professional experience in developing projects across different contexts and scales, including Urban Design, Residential Buildings (Social Housing), Hospitals, Mixed-Use Buildings and Interior Design, I actively engage in multiple phases of the process, from concept design to construction stages, this involves formulating design strategies, planning, team management, and prioritizing clear communication as the main component to ensure the successful achievement of objectives. I can illustrate that my architectural interests orient towards solving any situation independently of its complexity and scale, always looking to achieve creative and coherent solutions that reflect the character of the design to enhance and improve our everyday lives. Currently, my focus centers on the intersection of architecture with emerging technologies, the contemporary digital environment, and the impact on how we design, build, and experience space.

Residential Complex Social Housing 2010
In Venezuela the housing deficit has been arisen in the last 60 years. Presently it is estimated around two million the housing shortage. The high demand that occurs in the most populated cities and the speculation in the construction sector aggravate the issue. There have been attempts to find solutions, always focused on disadvantaged families. Some models have been copied from the Modern Movement that although it represented a solving at that moment nowadays they show them weaknesses in terms of social integration. Because of the continued expansion of Caracas the capital of Venezuela, it has started to occupy the periurban zones. Being this project one of the pilot schemes for occupying and consecutive expansion of the city toward the south. It is an experimental proposal and it is focused toward an alternative to the conventional constructions systems.

Master Plan The project is localized on a wasteland close to a train station (Caracas-Cua Line) surrounded mostly by agricultural areas. Due to the terrain morphology is proposed a pedestrian axis with 400 meters length that connect the southwest with the northeast branching out toward to the different entries especially on the way to the railway station and the access squares to the 400 apartments layout in 25 buildings; in addition there are a primary school, medical clinic, sport and green areas. It was sought to create an efficient mobility, giving the priority to pedestrians with clear connection between sidewalks (Pedestrian axis – Arcade routes – Rear path) and toward the train station.

SYNOPSIS The Venezuelan historical process as a way to understand the current situation.
1498 Spanish Colonization (foundation based in statutes of Laws of the Indies)
URBAN NETWORKS
ANDEAN MOOR Paramo de Los Conejos
Trying to understand our reality, it is necessary to have a holistic approach, it cannot be framed just in a urban or rural context. Reality is made up of a number of elements in constant interaction.
The majority of Venezuelan cities are located in valleys, surrendered by fragile ecosystems and rural settlement. The project focused on a rural community, as many rural areas are forgotten, isolated and with environmental potential.
The vitality that cores or nodes can create within a net, when they have well defined activities or dynamics it is a way to explain the urban connections if cities and any settlement are seen as nucleus part of a network interacting at different levels in relation to their importance, in this way it is understandable that when one of them absorbed the most of activities, disequilibrium take place giving rise to chaos.
Looking for the consolidation and fostering of permanence in new and existing “development nucleus”; Recognising them as small towns or cities under populated with modest or sparse activities. This might be a way to bring equilibrium back.
Agricultural economies: Cacao, Coffee, Sugar cane, Tobbaco.

ECO-FORM
“Urban Biosphere Reserve: a Biosphere Reserve characterised by important urban areas within or adjacent to its boundaries where the natural, socio-economic and cultural environments are shaped by urban influences and pressures, and set up and managed to mitigate these pressures for improved urban and regional sustainability.”

SOCIAL-FORM Oil exploration began.
The Gonzalez Village
Dramatic increase of per capital income
Centralisation of economy and investment. The capital city grew up rapidly.
1950 Rural exodus - people seeking for the cities´ comfortable lifestyle.
1960 During a very short period Venezuela stopped being a largely rural country and became an urbanised one.
Faced with this economic and social phenomenon, public policies and Territorial-Urban planning were vague, inadequate and insufficient.
1 Small village conformed by 20 families
DEVELOPMENT NUCLEUS The approach of the project is to create a prototype of a consolidated community (Development Nucleus). What is sought is to improve quality of life and give the option of living in a small city or town without giving up the facilities that big cities can offer, this might boost a balanced distribution of population in the long run. Based on criteria of ecological development, adaptability and highlighting local attributes, strengthen interaction and integration among “Development Nucleus”
