UMBRAL ENTRE LA CIUDAD Y EL RIO| THESIS Chanchamayo Peru, 2016 Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru
El Río Chanchamayo, es importante por poseer el mayor caudal y recorrido de la provincia de Chanchamayo, además de cumplir un rol urbano y paisajista: La Merced, capital de la provincia, se ha extendido de forma paralela al río, adoptando el carácter de una ciudad lineal insertada en el paisaje de la selva central del Perú. Sin embargo, la avenida principal (paralela al río) atraviesa toda la ciudad y ha ocasionado una fragmentación entre la ciudad y su borde. El municipio ha elaborado un plan de regeneración urbana para resolver las problemáticas de la urbe. Sin embargo este plan contiene la construcción de una via de evitamiento a lo largo de todo el borde del río. Con esto, finalmente, se separaría a la ciudad del río, y de ese modo los chanchamainos perderían su principal espacio de la relación con su entorno natural, y en el cual se llevan a cabo actividades culturales y recreacionales.
