Miami Shareholder Yolanda Strader was recognized by Legacy Miami as part of a new Carlton Fields shareholder class that included four women. She was featured as the cover story in the 2019 Legacy Power issue for her accomplishments in her career and in the community. During her tenure as president of the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Association, she worked to improve diversity in the judiciary so that it is reflective of the communities it serves. This led to the forming of the Judicial Diversity Initiative, a coalition of minority bar associations dedicated to increasing diversity on the bench and to raising awareness of the issue. Yolanda continues to challenge the status quo statistics of being a black woman in a position of power, Current Fellow YOLANDA stating, “I’m comfortable in my own skin and asserting my STRADER voice. Even when I’m the only Shareholder Miami black woman in a courtroom or a meeting, I know I’m just as valuable as anyone else.” Diversity and Inclusion at Carlton Fields LCLD is a premier national organization that provides opportunities for women and minority in-house counsel to connect with women and minority law firm partners and senior associates. Each year, the firm nominates a mid- to senior-level associate to be an LCLD Pathfinder and a junior shareholder to be an LCLD Fellow. In addition, LCLD has an active alumni program that allows alumni to maintain and grow their relationships.

Carlton Fields was recognized by Leadership Council on Legal Diversity for its efforts to promote diversity in the legal profession and named as a 2018 Top Performer. The designation is given to corporations and law firms that commit the most time and energy to its programs. The firm has been a leader of the LCLD since it was founded in 2009.

Through LCLD’s fellowship program, I have the opportunity to learn how to effectively lead diverse groups and support future generations of diverse talent. As a diverse attorney and leader within the firm, I proudly share LCLD’s mission of building a more open and diverse legal profession. — Alana Zorrilla-Gaston, 2019 Fellow
