Welcome to the 5th Annual TRI-N Charolais Farms Bull Sale! Welcome to the 5th Annual TRI-N Charolais Farms bull sale! Hard to believe its that time of year again! 2020 marks our 35th Anniversary in the purebred Charolais business. Wow does time fly when you are having fun! After consigning bulls to various test stations (Douglas, Roblin, Yellowhead), then selling bulls at the Westman Charolais Sale, Cattleman’s Classic (for 15 years) to hosting our own sale at the Virden Auction mart and now on the farm we have seen some changes!

The venue of how we sell our bulls may have changed throughout the years but we have always used these core values in breeding cattle the last 3.5 decades. They are:

Calving ease: As our herd continues to grow and farm help is hard to find, calving ease is a must. Any bulls or heifers born over 110 lbs. aren’t kept. When selecting herd bulls a small head and smooth shoulder is a must!

Calf vigor: Calves must get up and suck without help. Dead calves don’t grow or make you money. If we have to help a calf suck they get the band.

Accelerated growth from birth to weaning: Moderate BW with the goods to wean them heavy weight calves in the fall. Compare our 205 DW on these bulls to many in the industry!

Breeding libido: The ability to breed your cows as a yearling quickly and effectively. All bulls are guaranteed to get your cows bred during your breeding season.

Structural Soundness/Easy Doing: Bulls/cows must be able to travel large pastures and last. They must be easy doing. Let the cow work for you, not you for the cow!

Maternal strength: From the beginning we believed in breeding for better and better females and the bulls will come!

Success in our commercial herd: Many of our purebred herdsires started their careers in our commercial herd. This to us is a no-nonsense way to access the above 6 points in a no nonsense environment. Even the 2012 Agribition Champion Bull and Top 10 Supreme Finalist had to breed commercial cows! “

The bulls will be located just outside our heated sale barn. They will not physically be entering a sales ring but will be selling by a TV video. Please come early to select your bull and enjoy some Ukrainian hospitality starting at noon. We are very excited to welcome Brennin Jack (Jack Auction Group) to our sale staff this year! Brennin makes his living from the cattle industry. He works as a calf order buyer as well as an auctioneer. From the Desk of Jack Auction Group Powerful, Uniform, Big Bodied and Masculine! These are words that come to mind when I look at the Tri-N Bull Pen. I’m Brennin Jack, and along with my partner Ben Odiorne, we own and operate Jack Auction Group, as well as, operate a cow/calf and grass cattle operation just south of Prince Albert, SK. You may be asking yourself, who the heck are these guys? Good question, we may be “new” in the purebred cattle marketing sector, but, we are far from rookies in livestock marketing or cattle in general. Two years ago, I stepped back from Auctioneering full time, to pursue building our own company and focus on my other passion, order buying. I’m very fortunate to work for one of the largest, and well-respected order buying firms in Canada - Gibson Livestock. I have personally marketed around 1.2 million cattle as an auctioneer over the past two decades, and evaluating cattle has been my day job for that entire time. I personally see around 250,000+ cattle a year, and you get to know a good one, from a bad one, in a hurry. When it comes to orders for large-framed cattle, no one will complain when you send them Charolais or Charolais Influenced Cattle. It doesn’t matter if the truck is off loading in Ontario, Southern Alberta, or Nebraska, front end Charolais and Char Cross Cattle are always sought after. There are marketers that will try and tell you they have to be Tan to bring any premium. Yes, Charolais cattle tend to be the high sellers at almost every sale, but, really good crossbred cattle that have a big shot of Charolais in them won’t sell very far behind. If you have Red or Black Cows, put a Charolais Bull on them to add that big boost of performance to your calves. Well, I want to keep “Bessie’s” heifer calf and don’t want to keep a Silver or Yellow Heifer, short answer, SELL THEM!!! There will always be someone that has your style of heifer that you want as a mother cow. My advice, raise cattle that will bring you the most pounds and make all the buyers sit up on the edge of their seat when your cattle come into the sale ring. I tell everyone, breed your cows to make steers, instead of breeding your entire cow herd to keep 10 replacement heifers, go buy the 10 best heifers from a reputation ranch to add to your program. We admired Terantino and his calves for years at Happy Haven Charolais. When we were given the opportunity to purchase him as a 7 year old we jumped on it! Quite possibly the best footed Charolais bull I’ve ever seen! At 8 years of age his feet were never touched. He is referred to here as the “muscle man” as he was so compact and full of meat. It’s worth the drive to come see his sons - they are truly impressive. Every one has that small head, smooth shoulder with hair and excellent performance! A true cattleman’s dream!

We purchased Thriller from Triple C Charolais as a 2-year-old. We really admired his sire (TRI-N Thriller PLD 173Z) when he topped our bull sale in 2013. To this day he is still one of the deepest bodied bulls we have ever produced. His mother is still in production at 12 years of age and goes back to the Prairie Rose cow family. She will be entering our embryo program soon. The first year we predominately used him on commercial cows as we feel that’s the true test of a bull. He passed with flying colors! We have many daughters milking now and they are excellent. Rarely you find a bull that sires calves with as much meat, middle, excellent feet and maternal strength. Not to mention a true outcross! Terms All on-site buyers are required to pay by Cheque, Cash, Debit, or by Visa or MasterCard (3% convenience fee on all credit cards) the day of the sale. Internet Buyers and US Buyers will have two (2) business days to wire Canadian Funds to Jack Auction Group for all purchases. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes Bidding will be re-opened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements Announcements made from the block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalog. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration Each animal will carry papers issued by their association unless otherwise stated in the catalog. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and priviledge of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee In the case where the animal is subject to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at the sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. American Purchases The sellers will do all health testing for export. Bulls will be delivered to the nearest point of entry at the seller’s convenience. All American purchses will be charged additional fees for health testing and delivery as described on page 3. Exhcange rates will be announced sale day at current bank rates. All bulls guaranteed exportable to the USA. If you are an American citizen, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship (birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization as well as photo identification). Accidents Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. Sale Manager Jack Auction Group is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warranties or representations, expressed or implied.
