Nike Savvas’ collection ‘Liberty and Anarchy’ was held in the Leeds City Art Gallery and was an inspirational display of colour and shape. Created from wooden frames and coloured ribbon, her sculptures explore well how 3D shapes can be manipulated and used to create abstract designs. What seem like simple creations are surreal to look at from every angle, giving the viewer a new perspective. The collection has a playfulness about it. The bright bold and clashing colours and complex shapes are reminiscent of childhood doodles, building blocks and spirographs. Nike Savvas was awarded the Australian Council Fellowship in 2010.

“As you know, I’m androgynous. I can wear a jacket that most guys wouldn’t put on. But you make it in guys’ sizes, and suddenly they’re wearing them. I 12 think styles should get back to getting people to wear things that look so good that they don’t care.” 14
