Drabantenhuset is included in the project “Fyrklövern” in Upplands Väsby. A jury formed by independent experts evaluates the proposal on different cathegories like urban aspects, cooperation, innovation, rooms and parking. My roll in this projekt was to develop the facade system with prefabricated concrete and to produce the material for the jury presentation. Our proposal got the highest result.

N

ALESSANDRO RIPELLINO. 2017.

Drabantenhuset represents the latest design in elderly housing and represents how a backside transforms into a front - this is an urban block that contains everything. Drabanten is the city center’s new front and appears as the background for the new district park “Blå parken”. The volume integrates itself carefully in the surroundings and sticks out at the same tlme with its raggedy character. The program consist of different forms of elderly housing according to the client concept. The groundfloor is a basement composed by the entrances for the residents inbetween little local stores and cafés. From the basement grows three different volumes which are strategically placed: - The care department sticks out over the street. - The highrise on the east works as a landmark for the whole center. - The volume at the back creates a green background to the park on top of the basement. This park is for the residents and visitors with direct access to Silver Life’s reception, gym, hair dresser, physiotherapist and a restaurant with ist open-air café. The concept is an infinity garden that visually goes on “blå parken” below.

SEB’s new headquarters in Arenastaden is one of Sweden’s biggest office building, with 97000 sqm and 4500 workplaces. It is a city in the city. The project is divided into three blocks which are connected above and below the ground with eachother and to the urban fabric. It is also possible to walk between the roof terraces, parks with a different landscape on each block. The flow of people around and inside the buildings organizes the different rooms in the office landscapes responding to the urban situation. The blocks are shaped as three cristal volumes emphasizing horizontality as a strategy to reduce the visual impression of the buildings scale. The design of the bearing steel structure is unique for each volume giving each building it’s identity. Each facade has a screenprinted white pattern based on this design. The glas reflects the surroundings meanwhile the screenprinted motif creates a dynamic shadow effect on the facade behind.

. ..

ALESSANDRO RIPELLINO 2014 The biggest challenge about working on this project was being a part of a 25 architects team (both my collegues and consultants) and working with such a big and complex building. I was involved in it during Project planning process (systemhandling) and building permit drawings (bygglov).

KV GODSVAGNEN HOUSING

Block Godsvagnen is located on the boarder of central Stockholm, in the heart of Hammarby Sjöstad, by the park Heliosparken. The area was a harbour and industrial area that in the recent years has been transformed into a lively and green profiled neighbourhood creating homes for about 25 000 people. The project consist of three freestanding buildings that open the block towards the park and a building in the center of the plot that defines the backyard.

BERG / CF MØLLER. 2015. I worked on this project for a couple of months when I was outsourced from Ripellino to the office Berg CF Møller in Stockholm. I was part of a five people team and I was responsible of the Revit modell and drawing management for Project planning documents (Systemhanding). I helped the team drawing plans, facades, sections, details, schedules and diagrams.

PROJECT SITE

The concept offers dwellings and yards that are suitable for big families and advocates environmental friendly solutions, recreational green areas and clearly defining private and public space: community terraces on top of the buildings for private use and public functions on the ground floor completing the park and promenade paths.

ALESSANDRO RIPELLINO. .2015-2017. I have worked on this project from early design phase to construction- and building permit drawings. I was responsible for the facade design, had contact with the client, constructors and suppliers, drew by myself construction details and I learned a lot about prefabricated concrete systems and metal construction. It has been an exciting journey working with materiality, doing mock-ups, visiting the concrete factory in order to find the right pigments and aggregates as well as trying to solve constructive details with good quality all the way from sketch to completed building.

PROJECT SITE

HAGASTADEN

21 Kromosomen is one of the first blocks that are being built in the new neighbourhood Hagastaden, an old industrial area which is transforming into a vibrant neighbourhood with 6000 new apartments and 50000 workplaces inbetween Vasastan and Solna. This area is going to become a new annual ring in Stockholm’s cityplan that sticks out because of it’s higher scale and density. The new urban fabric is a sequence of openings (streets and inner yards) that connects public spaces: the new citypark and Norra Stationsgatan. The block has apartments of different sizes and a lively basement with commercial activities. It consist of four towers that are shaped as four rocks to create variation and they are linked by lower buildings. The concept for the facades is a double storage motif to emphasize verticality and reduce the buillding scale. The constructive system is composed by prefabricated concrete elements in warm tones designed with a rugged relief pattern. The inner yard has a pale expression and lighter colours reminding a quarry.

LILJEHOLMEN BY THE BRIDGE URBAN PLANNING

This project is an urban intervention that connects the districts of Södermalm and Liljeholmen in Stockholm by creating new pedestrian and bike paths, public spaces and 3000 new homes. The connection between the bridge and the urban fabric becomes crucial when the city center grows. PROJECT SITE

ALESSANDRO RIPELLINO. 2014. I was a part of the team that worked on this project on behalf of the city planning office in Stockholm. It was one of my first projects at the office and I worked mostly with the northen part by the bridge, drawing sections, plans and designing the facades. I took care of the integration of the old storage buiding in our proposal.

STOCKHOLM

Today the bridge Liljeholmsbron merges into a big regional road (Södertäljevägen) that passes through Liljeholmen cutting out the neighborhood and not interacting with the local fabric. The new buildings aim to visually shorten the bridge into segments and create better connections between the bridge level and the quay. A new street along the existing storage brick building reduces traffic on the quay, which becomes a leisure path. Dramatic level differences and water space meets architecture at a big scale by the bridge meanwhile the street and park system shapes carefully and highlighting the history of the place. Old architecture will co-exist with new buildings creating an interesting, more dense city.

KV VITSIPPAN HIGH-RISE, MIX USE

Block Visippan at Europaplatsen located at the entrance of Borås city is today divided in two parts: car parking and a park with a giant Pinoccio sculpture called “walking to Borås” made by Jim Dines in 2008. The plot is surrounded by the highway to the south and east meanwhile to the west and north it meets the city center. The facade design requires solving the traffic noise problem, that is why all the apartments has glazed terraces that gives unique qualities and can work as a little garden patch. The high-rise is composed by renting apartments, student and elderly homes. This volume rest on a four floor basement that contains a supermarket, offices, parking and a kindergarten that has it’s courtyard on top of the basement.

ALESSANDRO RIPELLINO. .2017. I worked on this project at an early stage during a couple of months together with an assistant in order to create the material for the detailed development plan (detaljplan granskning). I had direct contact with the client, AB bostäder I Borås and worked together with a traffic expert. I had responsibility of how the complex program could coexist in the plot and show some ideas for the facade design.

PROJECT SITE

BORÅS

The facade of the basement relates to the textile manufacturing history of Borås with it’s houndstooth pattern using bricks, a traditional material in many buildings in the city. The buildning includes an interesting mix of functions that reactivates this area in Borås becoming a landmark that welcomes visitors coming to Borås by car, students and people interested in textile and fashion design.

JACA

The programme consist of a Youth Center and dwellings for rent. The project is located on the border of Jaca‘s historical center, to which it takes part of and it has an open view contemplating the landscape. The chosen plot is a part of the Reform Plan of the Historical Center. The challenge is to integrate the public building in the historical urban fabric whereas the dwellings face the avenue that surrounds the city center, enjoying the great views. Two spines organise the project, one for each function: a corridor provides access to the different rooms and an exterior walk way provide entrances to the dwellings. The direction of these spines derives from the historical urban analyse and both of them are linked to the stair- and elevator areas.

JACA AND THE PROJECT SITE

45 PLAN OF THE HEIGHTS IN JACA’S CITY CENTER

46

The model clearly shows 3 elements: / the Cathedral and the Monastery as special objects / the party walls are the elements that give shape to the city / the skin that encloses the city center and reminds of the medieval wall. Two urban fabrics that follows different direccions meet at the project site: the part that grows radially from the monastery and the fabric between the two axis that starts from the cathedral. So the distribution spines of the project follow the direction that belongs to both urban fabrics.

The facade is a skin that “moves” freely like the facades of the historical center do, not following the cartesian axis. The empty space draws an interesting sequence that engage the the open landscape with the avenue, going through the project and ending at the existing plaza in the north. The project assimilates interior lighting courtyards which are charcteristised by the place and are shared between the facility and the existing dwellings.

Stift Altenburg baroque Monastery is located in the middle of a large forest. This project is about extending the monastery creating a place for corporal and spiritual regeneration that also contains a library. The project is located next to the monastery courtyard which opens up to the north. The proposal is an interpretation of the cloister: filling this monastery courtyad, moving it till the plott and emptying it again creating a new courtyard. The existing coutyard can be intuited from the new one. Both are connected on the ground floor walking underneath the library located on 1st and 2nd floor. From the new cloister a ramp is going down to the spa which is in a quiet area in contact with the nature.

The proposal consist of housing with commercial and office functions located on the ground floor. The site is situated at a block of one of the developed plans to solve this crucial point of Barcelona. The concept is based on 3 pieces that are placed in different positions with different heights. PROJECT SITE TODAY

This 3 pieces are connected on the ground floor populating urban activities and is interrupted on two points. A crack facing Gran Vía that relates to the next block and a ground floor passage that connects the new Encants Market with the inner plaza that the three pieces surround. Each piece has two “L”-shaped elements that contain two dwelling typologies: a duplex and a simplex. In the cracks between these two “L” elements the staircase, elevator and installations are located and two walkways along the inner courtyard organize the dwellings.

BADEL BLOCK INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

Badel block is the only area in this part of Zagreb that has not been developed. In this particular district nor buildings neither blocks are duplicated; instead, the enriched dialectic found in continuos and carefully demarcated spaces, which follow the plot of distinct mobility infrastructures and undefined, opened, discontinued spaces that remain isolated closed in urban bubbles. The city section shows us the alternation of the characteristics of these two logics: the alignment of the facades’ continuity that helps to formalize the streets independently of the interior pieces. In Badel Parks proposal the perimeter is broken perforating the hard crust block to discover an exuberant, disquiet and insolent interior, where: new activities are in interaction, a diversity of architectonic objects coexist. The heritage value lives in its use capacity, in continuing to be useful in the new socio-economic structures. The purpose is not freezing objects to preserve them from time; moreover, it’s about providing them meaning throughout times. Melting different theme parks encourage many itineraries associated to different activities, making a group of diverse thematic systems. Heritage Park, Commercial Park, car park, Business Park, enviromental park, residential park, public service, Leisure Park.

The program displays in two clearly different ways, following the guidelines in which urban materials are organized. On a dispersed way in a three floor spongy baseboard associated with two levels of parking and chained by an overlaping set of stairways and elevators that develop different architectural objects. On the other hand the buildings are architectural objects, articulated through an innovative technological garden as a new urban space, distanced from the cultural spaces linked to heritage.

KV.TROLLHÄTTAN GALLERIAN / COMPETITION

ALESSANDRO RIPELLINO. 2014. This was my first project at Ripellino Arkitekter. We competed against three other offices: Snøhetta, Lundgaard & Tranberg and Wingårdhs. It was really interesting to think about how working space combines with entertainment and relaxation, day and night. I was an important part of the team, developing the competition concept, through the design process to presentation drawings, plan, sections and facades.

A BUILDING THAT TELLS US ABOUT STOCKHOLM CREATES RINGS ON WATER

A FORCE FIELD IN STOCKHOLMS CITY

PROJECT SITE This project is located at Brunkebergs torg in the heart of Stockholm on top of the existing shopping mall Gallerian. It contains 40000 square meters office space and apartments.

The fifth floor is a meeting place for the whole block: from here the space branches out creating connections to the different buildings.

Cambium motto is a metaphor for growth, nutrition exchange and annual rings which manifests in the buildings outer skin: a room for communication that flows through all the storages in the building.

Around the atrium people meet for conference, lectures, coffee… and you can even find enclosed “holkar” (the Swedish word for “birdhouses”) spaces where you can focus or relax in the middle of the crowd.

The shape of the building responds to peoples flow, connection of paths and activation of Regeringsgatan. A new passage way connects Segels torg and the metro station with Gallerian and Regeringsgatan.

The connected space within the facade, Cambium, shows the buildings life and flows out to the city and activates the street environment.

CLOSE THE GAP INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

INTERNSHIP 2011 PLANET ARCHITECTS VIENNA 1ST PRICE

‘Close the Gap’ competition was held by Transportation Alternatives, and d3 to generate ideas for the New York City Greenway. The greenway is a cycle path that loops along the banks of the Hudson and East River but is interrupted by a huge gap along the East river waterfront, between 38th and 58th street. The East River waterfront has long been in need of infrastructure changes, the FDR (Franklin D. Roosevelt) highway that runs along the waterfront prevents access to bike paths and the waterfront. The proposal explores issues of mobility (how NewYorkers move in their city) through alternative transport modes and address the issue of renewable, green energy as a sustainable resource within a (still) growing 21st century Metropolis. Within the considerations was not only how the urban infrastructure could support alternative transportation access points but more importantly, how is the East River part of a New Yorker’s life? How would it change the movement and quality of the city if you could swim or surf in the East River on a hot summer day? As in any Metropolis there exists a high demand for public spaces and recreational areas. The proposal offers a wide range of interventions that not only offer mobility but play with New York City’s landscape and pre-existing infrastructure. One aspect of the project links Manhattans East River front to Roosevelt Island via a water reservoir that doubles as a hydropower station, allowing more access to Roosevelt as well as providing development and recreational possiblities.

SPACE, ENERGY, CONNECTION The approach to the waterfront is defined under the categories Connection, Space and Energy : - to develop an infrastructure that merges seamlessly into already pre-existing networks of public and alternative transportation but offers increased access points and mobility. - to provide Manhattan and its inhabitants a new green, public space and recreational environment that allows for an increase range of activities. - to include within the interventions a possibility for the production of renewable energy, such as installing solar panels on highway´s noise barriers.

INCREASING ACCESS TO OPEN SPACE IN MANHATTAN WITH AN EYE TO INTEGRATING NEW AND OLD INFRASTRUCTURE, PROVIDING DEVELOPEMENT AND RECREATIONAL POSSIBILITIES.

The proposed waterfront design has broad esplanades for both cyclists and pedestrians, as well as designated areas for sports and recreational activites. The FDR highway is tucked under a sound barrier that is fitted with solar panels and integrated into the waterfront. The East River can now boast of a reservoir that straddles Manhattan and Roosevelt Island creating a pedestrian/cyclists link between the two islands, while the East River is allowed to freely flow underneath the reservoir, powering an energy station run on hydropower. The waterfront park and reservoir not only offer a much needed “greening” of New York City, but offers a breathing space that enhances the city’s quality of life and redefines it, increasing access to open space in Manhattan with an eye to integrating new and old infrastructure.
