B e f o r e moving t o t h e l o c a t i o n a t 320 Alexander S t r e e t t h e Alex C e n t r e was known as t h e '44' t h e m u l t i - u s e c e n t r e on Cordova.

The week o f J a n u a r y 16-20 was t h e t i m e d u r i n g which I had made a r r a n g e ment w i t h my f . a . w. t o r e c e i v e a set o f f a r e s a v e r bus t i c k e t s , am I came i n t o t h e $11.25 e x p e n s e . o f f i c e on Thursday o f t h a t week t o p i c k up t h e t i c k e t s .

A s o n e of t h e w o r k e r s was i n t h e p r o c e s s o f w r i t i n g o u t t h e v o u c h e r f o r me a t t h e counter, t h e d i s t r i c t supervisor came o v e r and g a v e me a l e c t u r e on n o t coming i n t o t h i s o f f i c e a g a i n t o a s k f o r whatever.

I w a s d i s g u s t e d a t t h i s remark o f h e r s and t h e f a c t t h a t t h e a r r a n g e m e n t f o r t h e s e t i c k e t s had been worked o u t beforehand d i d n ' t s t o p h e r .

The r e a s o n f o r my a s k i n g f o r t h e s e t i c k e t s i n t h e f i r s t p l a c e was t o g e t t o a VSB n i g h t c l a s s t h a t same Thursday e v e n i n g .

The p i d d l i n g $35 c o s t f o r t h i s c l a s s had p r e v i o u s l y been d e n i e d t o me by t h e s o - c a l l e d K.O. P e t e r Imm, Volunteer.

A most e d u c a t i o n a l and e n j o y a b l e e v e n i n g o c c u r r e d on J a n u a r y 2 2 i n t h e C a r n e g i e 'Theatre.

I b a r e l y g e t enough t o s c r a p e through i n a four-week month. A f i v e week month w i t h t h e same amount o f money i s i m p o s s i b l e f o r me t o h a n d l e .

We always t o t a l l y run o u t o f food.

A t one p o i n t i f I r a n o u t o f food I would go and t r y t o g e t a food voucher.

I was t o l d n o t t o come back f o r a n o t h e r food voucher a f t e r u s i n g t h e system a b o u t f i v e o r s i x times i n about t h r e e y e a r s . I was s e n t a l e t t e r which s t a t e d t h a t I s h o u l d i n s t e a d go t o t h e food bank. I s h o u l d spend money on t r a n s p o r t a t i o n t o and from a food bank t h a t was t e n m i l e s away. T h i s d o e s n ' t happen i n a l l cases.

Some f i n a n c i a l a i d w o r k e r s w i l l g i v e a food voucher i f needed and n o t condemn you f o r i t . A l l s i n g l e and two p a r e n t f a m i l i e s on w e l f a r e s h o u l d g e t a food voucher whene v e r t h e y need i t , e s p e c i a l l y i n a five-week month. I f a p a r e n t i s t u r n e d awayj t h a t i s a b u s e o f c h i l d r e n by t h e system.
