T h i r t y people a t t e n d e d a powerful m e e t i n g on Nov.8, h e l d on t h e t h i r d f l o o r of C a r n e g i e .

I n a round-table d i s c u s s i o n , everyone spoke i n t u r n t o condemn t h e l a t e s t move o f t h e M i n i s t r y of S o c i a l S e r v i c e s and Housi n g (MSSH) t o b a s h t h e p o o r w i t h $50 c u t b a c k s on a s s i s t a n c e c h e q u e s .

We a l l had a c h a n c e t o g e t r i d o f o u r f r u s t r a t i o n s a n d , most i m p o r t a n t , Lo g i v e e a c h o t h e r s u p p o r t . A s a n adv o c a t e m y s e l f , I am d i r e c t l y i n v o l v e d i l l many c a s e s and h e a r d s t o r i e s o f i n j u s t i c e a t t h e m e e t i n g t h a t would have liad d i f f e r e n t e n d i n g s i f t h e p e o p l e liad known t h e i r r i g h t s . I n o n e c a s e a man was c u t by $30-$40 f o r 10 m o n t h s , o f f a d i s a b i l i t y p e n s i o n , and t h e s o c i a l worker claimed he h a d n ' t I witnessed f i l l e d out the papers. him d o j u s t t h a t and h e g o t t h e money wlien i t was s t r a i g h t e n e d o u t . I t was l ~ i sr i g h t t o make $100 e x t r a a month on a h a n d i c a p p e d a l l o w a n c e .

The games w e r e a n i n t e r e s t i n g s t u d y i n human m o t i v e and t h e w i l l i n g n e s s o f people t o harmonize.

When t h e d u s t c l e a r s w e ' l l have a d i f f e r e n t b u i l d i n g i n some r e s p e c t s ; p e r h a p s a s t e p i n t o t h e f u t u r e . Whose f u t u r e and w h e t h e r we k e e p c h a n g i n g r e m a i n s t o b e s e e n .

I only notice t h a t t h e p o l i t i c a l t h r u s t i s a b s e n t h e r e compared t o when C a r n e g i e o p e n e d , a n d t h e p a t r o n s seem t o b e c a u g h t i n some b a c k w a t e r e d d y , a w a i t i n g t h e f l o o d o f a new g e n e r a t i o n t o sweep them away.
