Green Hill is an extinct volcano that nowadays has become a Natural Park that provides home and shelter for many different animals, plants and trees.
Location & Directions
Traveling by bus, take route 201 at the west terminal going to Santa Ana, and then take route 248 going to Green Hill.
This beautiful place is located in Santa Ana Department in El Salvador, in the Apaneca Mountain range. It is situated at 2,030 meters above sea level. Traveling by car, take the road from San Salvador that takes you to Santa Ana.
HISTORY The Green Hill Volcano used to be an active volcano. Its origins takes back to two million years ago. The story tell that its last eruption was 25,000 years ago. Its name in Nahuat is “Cuntepeque” that means “Cerro de las brumas”.
When you get to “El Congo” make a left or if you are coming from Sonsonate take the road via Armenia and after take the detour “Puertas Negras”.

Green Hill is now an extinct volcano with two craters covered with vegetation, for that reason now Green Hill is a Tourist Center and a National Park that reserves more than 127 species of birds.
Traditions Green Hill as in other places of El Salvador has its own traditions and festivals, but one of the most known and important is the “Jocote festival� in which the people make a variety of dishes from this delicious fruit. Some of them are: Juice, Conserva, Jocote with Lemons and Salt, Jocote honey amongst others.
The View
El Pital is a cold weather place, it’s the highest peak in El Salvador and one of the most visited touristic destinations. It is well known for its variety of vegetation, flowers, fruits and vegetables. Some of the fruits that you can find are: strawberries, peaches and grapes. Some of the vegetables that you can find are: potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, garlic amongst others. It possesses a beautiful view, where you can observe a place filled with vegetation, and plenty of pine trees during the trip and in its surroundings.
The temperature can reach seven degrees and even two degrees at sunrise. LOCATION It is located in Chalatenango at two thousand seven hundred meters over sea level. There are three options to get to El Pital: by car, on bus or on foot. If you wish to get there by car you can use the highway Troncal Del Norte, and Pass by La Palma, and after by San Ignacio. From there, there is only thirteen kilometers of distance to travel to get to El Pital. The road
is in good condition up to Rio Chiquito. The next five kilometers are dirt road and it’s a very curvy, tricky and uphill road. There for you need a four wheel drive vehicle to be able to get there by car. On bus you must take the route 119 from the Bus terminal in San Salvador, which will take you to San Ignacio. Once you get to San Ignacio, you need to take route 509 that will take you to “Canton Rio Chiquito”. Then you can decide to hike or hire a vehicle to get through the five kilometers remaining.
Perkin in Lenka Tongue in Potón means “camino de brazas o carbones encendidos”. The major attraction in Perkin is the Museum of Salvadorian Revolution that pays tribute to the heroes of the living testament. HISTORY The museum is divided in to five rooms, each is destined to remember the causes that gave birth to the war. One of the rooms is named, causes that began the war. The others are named International Solidarity, Conventional Weapons, Peace Agreement and Radio Venceremos.
Perkin is very rich in history. When you reach this municipality, you can see the essence of the conflict on the walls. On the other hand, another important part of this place and to the history of El Salvador, the Museum of the Salvadorian revolution was founded by a group of guerrilla on September 13 th 1992. Three days before the last violent confrontation. The story of the twelve year conflict in El Salvador is told in this Museum, through compilation of objects, documents, images, information and testimony of historical events related to the civil war.
Remember that you can also visit The Monument of The Fallen and The Monument of the Peace in El Mozote.
LOCATION It is located in Morazan, Department of El Salvador. The access roads are in good conditions. It can be accessed by the Pan-American road, which also goes to San Miguel. When in San Miguel, continue to the left towards Santa Rosa de Lima. Then take the detour to San Francisco Gotera, you will pass many towns before you arrive to Perkin. The other route is via El Litoral, and once you arrive to San Miguel take Roosevelt Blvd until you reach the Triangle where you will make a right turn and continue the rout towards Santa Rosa de Lima.
The meaning of the name “Juayua” in Nuhuat Pipil is “Orquideas rojas o moradas”. Juayua is a beautiful place surrounded by hills and mountains and Izalco´s volcano. In the mountains you can see many coffee plantations and a variety of trees.

HISTORY In 1577 the town belonged to the Serafico Convent of Sonsonate, sometime later it formed the province of Izalco and on February 13th 1877 it was finally declared a Villa and received the name of El Progreso. The reason was because of it agricultural richness and improvements. The Villa changed its name once again to Santa Lucia de Xuayac in 1543. Finally in 1906 when it was declared a city it changed its name to Juayua. This city also became very powerful and famous because of the coffee trade. It was the first place in El Salvador where coffee was cultivated by Mariscal Salverria. In February, a cultural fest is celebrated, where many beautiful girls are presented to society. This honours the beauty of Juayua Women and may and up in engagement a man who chooses to do so. Another celebration is during Holy week, where Catholics only eat fish during a whole week. And last but not least the day of the dead,
LOCATION Juayua is located in Sonsonate Department, at about eighty kilometres from the capital of El Salvador. The road to get to Juayua is very far from Usulután and San Miguel. This beautiful place is located at 1025 meters above sea level and the city is 103.06 square kilometres. There are two access roads to this city, they are CA1 (El Litoral) and CA2 (Panamericana Road). It is located at a one and a half hour drive from San Salvador. Take the road that goes from Sonsonate to Ahuachapán to get to Juayua. If you travel by bus, take the route 205 from San Salvador to Sonsonate, then take the 249 route the heads to Ahuachapán. The roads are in such great conditions that even small vehicles can make it there.
