Karate is an art that stresses defense rather than offense. Sensei Matt is a 3rd degree black belt who teaches the traditional style of Okinawan karate. Students will develop coordination along with self-confidence, respect and a positive self-image. Uniforms can be purchased through the instructor. Parents can participate with their children for no additional charge. No class Nov 29. Jan 17 class and Feb 21 class will be held at Simkus Recreation Center.

Children and adults universally enjoy learning the art of karate. Classes are taught by Illinois Shotokan Karate Club’s expert instructors under the direction of John DiPasquale, four-time National Champion, U.S. Karate National Coach and President of the National Karate Federation of the U.S. Beginner students will not be permitted to register into the current session after the second class has met. Registration for continuers through advanced students will be accepted after the start date, but the full class fee is required.

Sports Leagues & Tournaments Sports League FAQs How do I register? Register online at csparks.org or use the registration form in this guide. By registering your child you agree to comply with the Parent Code of Conduct which can be accessed on the home web page of each youth sports league and is discussed by the coach at their pre-season parent meeting.

How do I register for tee ball, soccer, and high school leagues? Registration is by grade level. Players are to be registered for the grade the player is currently in. Preschoolers must be entering kindergarten for the 2014/15 school year.

How do I register for youth baseball? Registration is by age. Players are to be registered based on their age as of April 30, 2014.

How do I register for youth softball? Registration is by age. Players are to be registered based on their age as of December 31, 2013.

Can my child play up? Playing up is not allowed for instructional soccer or tee ball. For all other leagues playing up is allowed by one age or grade level but the following process must be adhered to: 1. The player must register at his or her age or grade. 2. A request to play up must be made to the program supervisor. 3. The player must attend the evaluation day for the sport and must attend at the time designated for the requested league/level (i.e. if a player should be playing in the Mustang league but wants to play in the Bronco league, player must attend the Bronco player evaluation).

16

What happens if I register after the deadline? Players placed on a wait list are not guaranteed placement on a team. If you register before team formation, the player will be moved off the wait list if there are enough to form an additional team. However, if you register after team formation, or if another team cannot be formed, placement will only be done when a team or teams are below the established maximum number of team participants. Players will not be added to any team one week prior to the first scheduled game.

Can I request for my child to be placed on a specific team? No, due to the nature of the program, we cannot accept any other coach, player, or carpool requests. However, one mutual friendship request will be honored for players in an instructional league, (8U) baseball and softball, or grade 1 and 2 soccer. A park district request form must be used for these requests and the guidelines listed on the form must be followed. These forms are available at Simkus Recreation Center, Fountain View Recreation Center and on our web site. Request deadlines are the same as registration deadlines (not early bird).

How do I volunteer to help? Volunteers are used for the following position: •

Coaches

League Coordinators

Planning Committees

Applications are available at Simkus and on the home web page of each youth sports league. These leagues can be accessed at: www.csparks.org/sports/youthsports

YOUTH SPORTS

DODGEBALL LEAGUE

INDOOR FUTSAL LEAGUE

Season includes eight games and a tournament. Teams are welcome but players must register individually. Team players must be in the applicable grade level. Team rosters, available at csparks.org or at the Simkus Recreation Center, must be submitted by the registration deadline. Minimum team roster is six with a maximum of 10. Games played at Evergreen School.

Futsal aims to help players acquire and develop the fundamental skills of dribbling, ball control, individual moves, passing and finishing in a fun, but competitive environment. Futsal is designed to complement, not replace regular soccer. What sets Futsal apart from other indoor soccer programs in the area is that players are guided through a learning experience and helped along to make their own decisions with the ball based on their feel for the game situation and the options they see in front of them.

WAIVER REGISTRATION/BROCHURE WAIVER & RELEASE IMPORTANT INFORMATION The Carol Stream Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Carol Stream Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the above listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs.
