Educational Technology
“If students are growing up in a world that requires them to be tech-savvy, then shouldn’t tech play a big role in their classroom experience?” -S. McGuire
1
What is educational technology? Commonly known as “EdTech,” educational technology signifies digital resources used to increase student engagement and learning achievement. (Lazaro, 2021)
2
How is it being used? Is it effective? Teachers at Holy Cross Academy have long been afforded SmartBoards, numerous devices and Google Suite accounts. It is time to do more! As technology advances, so must we. Effective use of our digital resources will better prepare our students for high school and beyond. 3
3
Who is using it? While technology is being used regularly in our STEM and Science classrooms, opportunities abound in EVERY subject! Our students must reach digital fluency and can only do so if technology is used and taught daily.

Where is educational technology headed for the future?
As we move into the 4th Industrial Revolution, students must graduate from middle school ready to engage with “high-tech” at the high school level. All Holy Cross Academy students are owed the opportunity to experiment with current and available educational technology suitable for their age level and personal interests. We are preparing our students to be well-rounded individuals and future leaders in a multitude of industries, many of which have yet to be defined. It is our duty to teach digital citizenship and facilitate learning through the use of educational technology in a faith-filled, nurturing environment.

What technologies should we be using?
“Teachers haven’t scratched the surface of what can be done with what is already available.” -R. Weissgraeber
● Google Suite Google Suite is free and already programmed into our system for staff and students. HOWEVER, the tech capacity and potential for educational use cannot be seen in our classrooms. More training is needed.
