Prepay- Member In Control
This is a pay-as-you-go plan that offers the opportunity for you to take control of your electric use and your electric account. You pay when you want and in the amounts you want. Instead of a traditional paper bill each month, your electric use is calculated daily (Monday- Friday). You will be able to see what you are using on a daily basis and how activities in your home affect your use of electricity. To find out if PrePay is right for you, contact our office.
Time-of-Day
In order to qualify for this rate, the member must use an average of at least 1,200 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month. Participants should limit their use of energy during peak times, when many people need electricity at once. In return, the member enjoys savings on kWhs. The participant must be careful to avoid a penalty for using large amounts of electricity during peak times.

Easy Ways To Pay Pay By Phone
Give us a call and follow the phone prompts using the automated phone system to pay your electric bill by check or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover - Residential accounts only) twenty four hours a day, seven days a week at no additional charge.
Handi-Pay
You can enjoy the safety and security of automatic bank draft with our Handi-Pay program. You’ll be able to pay your bills electronically, and avoid worrying about any late payments on your electric service bill. Once you sign up for the program, each month on the day your electric service bill is due, we’ll withdraw that amount from your checking account. You’ll continue to receive a statement each month that shows how much electricity you used. Best of all, this service like most of our services - is free.
Equal Payment Plan
You can pay the same amount for your monthly electric bill with our Equal Payment Plan. The Plan averages the prior use at your location or estimates your amount based on the electric appliances you’ll be using in your home. You then pay that amount each month, except for one month when Haywood Electric “evens up” your account. You’ll receive a bill each month. It will show the actual amount of electricity used, as well as your equal payment amount. We’ll also regularly check your Plan to ensure the amount is within the original estimate. That way, participants will stay within a comfortable payment range. If you would like to switch to another payment option at some time, that’s fine. Any money owed will then be due.
Smarthub
You can manage your electric account right from your home computer with the web version available on our website, or you can do it from your smart phone or tablet with the mobile app version, which is available on the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace. You can view your bill, make a payment, notify customer service of account and service issues, check your usage, and communicate directly with Haywood EMC all at the touch of a button. We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover - Residential accounts only, and e-checks with no service fees. Account information and the ability to pay your bill at your fingertips 24 hours a day .
Third-Party Notification
There are times in our busy lives when it’s difficult to keep up with all our bills, especially if you have an elderly parent who lives alone or if you often travel. While our Handi-Pay program makes it easy to pay by having Haywood Electric deduct the bill from your checking account each month, some people may not be able to do so. That’s where Third Party Notification comes in. With this program, a third party - someone other than the member - is designated to receive notification if a bill is late. That third party may then take care of getting the bill paid before late penalty charges are incurred or before the power is turned off. The member whose name the account is in will need to complete information for Haywood Electric before a third party is designated for the account. Please ask us for more information.
Gift Certificates
Have someone on your gift list who is impossible to buy for? A gift certificate from Haywood Electric may be just the thing to make that person’s special day bright. Just stop by our office and let us know the amount of the gift certificate and the recipient’s name. Once we receive your payment, we’ll give you a nice gift certificate to present to that person. What an easy way to show someone you care!

If The Power Goes Out Restoration Around The Clock
We at Haywood Electric do everything possible to prevent power outages from ever occurring. But sometimes the weather can create problems. If you should experience a power outage, please call us immediately at 452-2281, 966-4215, or 1-800-951-6088. You may choose to use our automated answering service by pressing “1” when prompted or stay on the phone line to speak with the next available customer service representative. If the line is busy, that’s a good indication that other people are without electricity too, so please be patient. If your power should go off, check the fuses or circuit breakers in your switch box. If that doesn’t work, check with your neighbors to see if their electricity is off. If it is, decide which one of you will call us to report the outage. This will keep calls to a minimum and will help keep the phone lines clear for other neighborhoods.
Protection For Electronic Equipment
Power surges can cause severe damage to computers, DVD players, TVs, and other sensitive electronic equipment. Now, there’s protection. Our Surge Suppression program helps keep lightning and power surges from reaching these items. See page 14 for more details.
Being A Co-op Member Pays Capital Credits
Haywood Electric is a little different than other utilities with whom you may have dealt. As a cooperative, we’re owned by the people we serve. That means you own the business. One of the benefits of being what we call a member is that excess monies left over at the end of each year are assigned to our members’ capital credits accounts. The assignments are made based on how much electricity each member purchased from us. The more you bought, the larger your capital credits allocation. Periodically, the Board of Directors returns a portion of these capital credits to members in the form of a check or a credit on your bill. That’s when it pays to be a co-op member! When a member’s account is set up in his or her name only, the capital credits account will be returned to that person’s estate following death. Once the administrator of the estate presents a death certificate to us and completes the necessary paperwork, we’ll issue a capital credits check. Many people find this money helpful in paying funeral expenses during a difficult time.

Home Energy Audit Energy efficiency adds up to savings.
Home Energy Audit Haywood EMC offers Home Energy Audits to members interested in identifying what measures may be taken to make their home more energy efficient. The audit will show the home owner problems that may, when corrected, save you the member significant amounts of money over time. Haywood EMC will send a Certified Home Energy Auditor to your home that will use a variety of techniques and equipment to determine your energy efficiency level. In addition to doing an evaluation of your home, the auditor will perform a blower door test, an infrared thermal imaging scan and may use a duct blaster to measure the extent of leaks in the building envelope.
How It Works After Haywood EMC receives your request for an Energy Audit, a certified building analyst will contact you to set up an appointment. A Home Energy Audit lasts about 3-4 hours. Your auditor will analyze your utility bills, discuss any of your specific concerns with you and examine the following areas of your home: • HVAC Systems • Insulation • Air Leaks • Water Heater • Refrigerator, Freezer & Other Appliances

Warm In Winter
The High Efficiency Electric Heat Pump When it comes to efficiency and even comfort all year long, today’s energy-efficient heat pump has a great story to tell. Even though its name suggest it will produce only heat, a high efficiency heat pump does a great job of heating and cooling your home. In winter, the unit absorbs heat from the outside air, even in the coldest winter temperatures and transfers that heat into your home. In the summer, it absorbs excess heat from inside your home and transfers it outside, leaving your home cooler.
Cool In Summer Better Temperature Control
Because they work so efficiently, today’s high-efficiency heat pumps maintain a more consistent indoor temperature. Other traditional heating systems produce blasts of heat that are often too warm for comfort. These blasts of warm air can cause the thermostat to stop the furnace too quickly, only to start it again moments later after the blast of warm air has cooled. Today’s heat pumps provide a steady flow of heat, creating an even, desirable temperature for your home. Increased Home Value Today’s high-efficiency heat pumps aren’t just heating and
Is An Electric Heat Pump Right for You? To help you decide whether a high-efficiency heat pump is right for your home, we offer a free home energy survey conducted by Energy Specialists from your local cooperative. The Energy Specialist is trained in heating and cooling systems, home construction and insulation and will evaluate your home with two goals in mind - to maximize your home’s comfort and minimize energy use. For more information contact your co-op today.
cooling units - they’re important elements in creating a more energy-efficient home. By combining a properly sized and installed high-efficiency heat pump with proper insulation levels, double pane windows and weather stripping, your home will use less energy. That means lower heating and cooling bills and increased value and resale potential for your home. Proper Installation The effectiveness of any heating/cooling system depends on
Lower Operating Cost Because they’re more efficient, today’s high-efficiency heat pumps cost less to operate than most other central heating and cooling systems. Rather than generating heat, heat pumps actually move heat, which is less expensive. Select an electric heat pump with a Seasonal Energy-Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 15 or greater. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the heat pump and the more you can save on heating and cooling costs.

After a major power outage
The steps to restoring power
Area enlarged: Consumers themselves (not the co-op) are responsible for damage to the service installation on the building. Your co-op can’t fix anything beyond this point. Call a licensed electrician.
Step 5.
Sometimes, damage will occur on the service line between your house and the transformer on the nearby pole. This can explain why you have no power when your neighbor does. Your coop needs to know you have an outage here, so a service crew can repair it.
Step 1.
Transmission towers and lines supply power to one or more transmission substations. These lines seldom fail, but they can be damaged by a hurricane or tornado. Tens of thousands of people could be served by one high-voltage transmission line, so if there is damage here it gets attention first.
Transmission substation
Tap Line
Local substation
Local substation
Step 2.
A co-op may have several local distribution substations, each serving thousands of consumers. When a major outage occurs, the local distribution substations are checked first. A problem here could be caused by failure in the transmission system supplying the substation. If the problem can be corrected at the substation level, power may be restored to a large number of people.
Local substation
Step 4.
The final supply lines, called tap lines, carry power to the utility poles or underground transformers outside houses or other buildings. Line crews fix the remaining outages based on restoring service to the greatest number of consumers.
Step 3.
Main distribution supply lines are checked next if the problem cannot be isolated at the substation. These supply lines carry electricity away from the substation to a group of consumers, such as a town or housing development. When power is restored at this stage, all consumers served by this supply line could see the lights come on, as long as there is no problem farther down the line.
urricanes and ice storms. Tornadoes and blizzards. Electric cooperative members have seen them all. And with such severe weather comes power outages. Restoring power after a major outage is a big job that involves much more than simply throwing a switch or removing a tree from a line. The main goal is to restore power safely to the greatest number of members in the shortest time possible. The major cause of outages is damage caused by fallen trees. That’s why your electric cooperative has an ongoing right-of-way maintenance program. This illustration explains how power typically is restored after a major disaster.

Equal Payment Plan & “Handi-Pay” Automatic Payment Program Equal Payment Plan Now you can pay the same amount for your electric bill every month! Sign up for Haywood EMC’s Equal Payment Plan and take the pressure off your budget during those months of increased electric use. You’ll pay an equal monthly amount year-round.
You can begin the Equal Payment Plan at any time. You qualify for the plan if: • •
You are a residential customer and, Your account has no past due amounts owed.
Your participation in the Equal Payment Plan can be ended at any time. Any money owed would then become due and payable.
E
The Equal Payment Plan averages your prior use, so your highest and lowest bills are adjusted to the same amount. New Member? No prior electric use? No problem! Your equal payment amount can be calculated on the prior occupant’s usage, a system average, or an inventory of your electric load.
Sign up for the Equal Payment Plan by mailing in the sign-up slip on the facing page, or call or come by your Haywood EMC Office.
You’ll continue to receive your monthly bill which will show the actual amount of energy used, the balance of your account, and your equal payment amount.
Now you can enjoy the safety and convenience of automatic payment of your electric bill with a draft from your checking account or a recurring charge to your credit or debit card (Residential accounts only). Our “Handi-Pay” Automatic Payment Program allows you to pay your energy bills electronically. No more late charges…No worries when you’re away.
Haywood EMC will regularly audit your Equal Payment Plan to assure that the amount paid stays within reasonable limits of the actual consumption.

The amount of your energy bill will be drafted from your checking account or charged to your debit or credit card on the due date of your bill. The charge or draft will never occur before the due date but may be one or two days after the due date if it falls on a day when banks are closed. You will receive a bill just like you do now. You will have sufficient time to review the bill and to notify us if there is a problem. Once you’ve signed up for “Handi-Pay” and all arrangements are finalized, the words “BANK DRAFT” will appear on your monthly bill. Until that time you will continue paying your bill by mail or at a Haywood EMC office.*
To sign up, just fill out the Handi-Pay Authorization Agreement below. You can mail the agreement or bring it to one of our offices. This program is available to all residential members. Commercial members may participate in the draft of a checking account but are not eligible for recurring charges to a debit or credit card. Members who use the program must maintain sufficient funds in their bank account. Return payments for any reason will result in the account being removed from our “Handi-Pay” program and a return fee will be added. *We accept VISA,MasterCard and Discover credit and debit cards only.
