ARCHITECTURAL OFFICE EXPERIENCE I study architecture because I like the way of thinking that it gives. I’m interested especially when it transcends the formal issues and deals with real dimensions. I like architecture as a broad and current discipline that allows to participate on many discussions among them the urban, social and everything related with the city.

ARCHITECTURE

hybrid building

Patio Bonito is a renovation area of Medellín, that’s why it requires more diverse and dense developments. This place is still a residencial neighborhood, located near Las Vegas an importan avenue that conects several universities and educational equipment. This hybrid building is proposed as a transicion between two diferent urban dinamics, given that the borders were different for each side, facades had to respond to each situation in a proper way. The hybidization was made through the educational program in asosiation with the equipment near the building.

The emplacement uses the same patio strategies as the foundational “Patio Bonito” houses which ones were surrounded by a privat patio. Likewise the building is comformed by two towers surrounded by a public (open) patio that determinates the relationship between the program (public or privated) and their users. This patio has two diferent heights one at street level an the other 2.5 m under what diversificates the dinamics. The building hosts different uses like, laboratories, media library, offices, auditoriums, housing and collective spaces.

MODELS

FOUNDATION bombelli

The artistic foundation, localised in front of the museum of the seas of Barcelona, is introduced to the city as a building for the public and the culture. The social character of the building provides an untangling of investigation and communication of the arts and present show Lanfranco Bombelli enriched the area of Cataluña. For the architectural development of the project, particular elements from Cadaqués acted as the basis of design, such as the geometrical relationship between the rocks, the sea and the beach, resulting in relations of envolving character with a big strength of attraction. Nevertheless, Bombelli’s work had a direct influence in the composition of the elements of the facade and in the ground floor.

COMPLEX FOR PÁRAMO OF BELMIRA

Work done with Santiago Martinez Murillo, Andrea Jaramillo and Palma Piedrahita.

2.8 N+

This intervention takes place in the páramo of Belmira, an endemic ecosystem of the tropics. Essential for the ecosystem balance, conservation and water supply of large cities such as Medellín. The proposal for this complex, seeks to be of low impact, both in its form, as in its materiality and construction methods (stone masonry and earth). It proposes a space to be that sits in the peri-páramo: a transition zone between the high Andean forest mountain and the paramuna area. The space is generated from the recreation and mimesis of the four natural moments and the materiality of the rocky strip, around a natural course of water that slides downhill.

*Complex program

In the Pรกramo water microcycle, four fundamental moments in the operation of the ecosystem are identified: -The fog that rises up the slope from Valle del Cauca and floods the air of the Pรกramo with humidity -The capture of the water that the flora makes to deposit it in the earth -The runoff that arises in the earth and slides on rocky soils -The wetlands that form when the runoff loses its speed and the channels become surfaces. The building concentrates the ctivity and the human impact on a reduced the territory, at the same time that it supposes a place of arrival and rest in the middle of the mountanin.

COORDINATES AND EVIDENT TERRITORIES

The borders respond to different dynamics, some of them coincide with natural constitutive elements and others don’t. But the world in its impatience of knowing everything is accounted for, every point is part of a geodesic mesh that reveals the exact points of everything. This border place is proposed to make the intervention in a physical but symbolic way, taking into account that the internal conflict that Colombia has had generated several borders within its internal natural territories associated to the violence that they had suffered. Through the peace talks, these formerly blocked territories became liberated. The geodesic mesh now is in an invisible plane, and is located in a fraction of that freed territory, a fraction that materializes the change that became possible thanks to the peace process.

DOMESTIC TOPOGRAPHY - HOUSING

Domestic topography is a housing project located in the Manila neighborhood, its known for its mixed use development and low density. The project is implanted in a corner composed of three facades under the idea of generating collective and public dynamics through the patio and the proposed program for the first floor. Collective spaces are considered as fundamental for the public and private transitions, making these the ones that promote encounters.

TYPOLOGY A

The principal idea of design is about how man changes topography in order to inhabit a certain place, and how this becomes determinant to the housing surfaces. Walls become more complex through folding in order to provoke active relationships within the inhabitant and the space it inhabits. The project is made up of three different types of spaces: Private, Collective, and Public, adding as well three tipologies of housing: A. Individual (1 inhabitant), B. Shared (2-3 inhabitants) C. Familiar (4-5 inhabitants).
