Herfell Sea Ranch Cabin by cabin Frankby / Reiulf Architects Ramstad Architects

A philosophers retreat was conceived as a calm and peacefull space. It was strategically implanted in the site in front of the local historical church and cemitery as it seemed to have the best insolation, ventilation, and connection with the landscape. The sun sets perpendicularly to the facade that contains the library, meeting room and commom reflection areas.

reflection in commom spaces

Designed as 4 main volumes, two private and two public. The private one contains the rooms and commom reflexion areas, that beyond connectors, works as arteries of an living organism. The object was to propitiate quite places that can be proper for development of ideas, among the common areas of the building. The two public volumes are divided in one noisy, and one not quiet nor noisy, made for transition. The noisy encourages discussion and speech, and includes meeting room, dinning room and kitchen. The transition one is composed by the lobby, living room and library. The design project was thought to optimize light through the building, and use it as an simbol of REFLEXION.
