Writing task: ARTICLE. There is a student magazine in your area which is holding a writing competition. The magazine has invited its readers to take part in the competition by contributing an article about an amazing social or family event. Write your article. You should write around 250 words. An incredible wedding!

Have you ever been to a celebration that was so incredible that you will never forget it? I have, and I’d like to tell you about it. It was my friend’s wedding and it took place in a beautiful location – I’ve never been to a wedding in such an unusual location before. It was in the mountains, in a deep valley surrounded by spectacular peaks which were still covered in snow in spite of it being April! There was a beautiful stone house and a huge barbecue where my friend’s family had prepared a whole roasted pig. The photographs were taken with everyone standing with their backs to the valley, and they look stunning – in spite of the fact that we were all freezing and one of the guests actually slipped and twisted her ankle! But it wasn’t only the location thatmade it memorable – it was the whole thing. After the wedding ceremony had fi nished, there was a great party with a fantastic meal. Instead of just the bride and groom getting presents, as is normal, everyone got a small present as a momento of the occasion . That was a lovely touch and I still have mine now. The speeches were very funny, not like the usual boring ones and the groom actually sang his speech which was very romantic and amusing at the same time! After the meal some musicians from a nearby village came, and everyone danced all night. That’s not so different, I hear you say – but what made it special for me

was that while I was dancing I saw a really attractive boy and actually asked him to dance with me. We have been going out together since then. In fact, I’ll be inviting many of the friends I saw on that occasion to my own wedding. I hope that occasion will be just as memorable. Maybe I’ll write to the magazine again and tell you all about it!

Examiner’s comments: This is a good answer. The writer has given a title, and used techniques such as rhetorical questions to engage the reader’s interest. It is clear and easy to follow, and readers of the magazine could imagine what the event was like and understand why it was interesting and unusual, and whether the writer enjoyed it. The range of language is good, and it is accurate and uses an appropriate style.
