With films from six different countries, this January’s programme offers you an audio-visual feast for your senses, emotions and brain: films that will inspire, challenge, enlighten, incense and entertain audiences. UNTOUCHABLE (15) Dir. Olivier Nakacher, Eric Toledano 2012 - France - 1hr 52min Starring: François Cluzet, Omar Sy, Anne Le Ny In French with English subtitles

Based on a true story, this witty and moving film is about two men who should never have met: a quadriplegic aristocrat injured in a paragliding accident and a young man from the projects who becomes his caregiver and restores his lust for life.

A deeply moving story about the relationship between a young man and his ageing family servant, handled with exquisite affection by director Ann Hui. One day Roger comes home to find that Ah Tao has suffered a stroke. As the old woman’s health deteriorates, Roger begins to look after her, and the single professional man becomes a devoted carer.

A cargo ship is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars, a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company and the Somali pirates. A tense, gripping thriller, A Hijacking avoids action movie clichés and instead creates a palpable sense of dread by mixing gritty realism with atmospheric beauty.

U-CARMEN E-KHAYELITSHA (15) Dir. Mark Dornford-May - 2005 South Africa - 2hr 6min In Xhosa

This classic tragic opera is transported to South Africa telling the story of a seductive cigarette factory worker and her attempts to romance a policeman already set to marry another woman. Originally mounted on stage by the innovative Mark Dornford-May, this version of Carmen reworks Bizet's familiar tunes by adapting them into the language of Xhosa .

TYRANNOSAUR (18) Dir. Paddy Considine – 2011 - UK – 1hr 32min Starring: Peter Mullan, Olivia Colman, Eddie Marsan

Joseph (Peter Mullan) is an unemployed widower with a drinking problem, a man crippled by his own volatile temperament. Hannah (Olivia Colman) is a Christian worker at a charity shop, a respectable woman who seems wholesome and happy. When circumstance brings the pair together, Hannah appears as Joseph's guardian angel, tempering his fury and offering him warmth, kindness and acceptance. As their relationship develops, Hannah's own secrets are revealed.

As Jasmine struggles with her haunting memories of a privileged past bearing dark realities she ignored, she tries to recover in her present. Unfortunately, it all proves a losing battle as Jasmine's narcissistic hang-ups begin to overwhelm her. Her old pretensions and new deceits begin to foul up everyone's lives, especially her own.
