HELLO AND WELCOME... ... to another season at The Electric Theatre. We’ve had a very successful Spring season which included our January Film Festival and half term Family Festival where we hosted our first ever relaxed performances. We worked closely with The Open Box Theatre Company to produce accessible theatre for children with autism and their families which was a great success. Thank you to everyone that came to visit and watch this space for more in the future. It’s a season of Festivals this summer, with tie ins to the Guildford Summer Festival, Guildford Fringe Festival and our own mini Festival hosted jointly with our resident youth theatre MIMfest 2014 (p7). We are also really excited by our expanded Electric Film Festival (p13-15). Based on your feedback we’ve added matinee performances, plus shorts from local filmmakers before some screenings. As usual we will have free programme notes for every film with lots of extra details about the screenings. So grab a beer or a glass of wine, settle down in a popcorn and advert free environment, and enjoy the best the independent and world cinema scene has to offer.

GATA is an umbrella organisation of about 20 societies and groups including theatre and opera companies, singing and youth groups, as well as dancers and film makers. The Association works towards advancing public education in the dramatic arts in and around Guildford. It has been a major ally of The Electric Theatre, having been instrumental in its founding. Many of the groups perform at The Electric Theatre year in, year out. Why not drop in and see what they’re up to, and maybe join in too? The play follows two theatre critics - Moon and Birdboot - who are watching a ludicrous setup of a country house murder mystery, in the style of a whodunit. By chance, they become involved in the action causing a series of events that parallel the play they are watching. Full of suspense, murder, poignant critical acclamations and laugh-out-loud belly aching moments this is a comedy not to be missed.
Featuring Mark Crooks Clarinet/Sax A graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music, and winner of the Young Jazz Player of the Year Competition in 1991, Mark Crooks has worked in a wide range of musical settings. He is most at home in the jazz world, having played at all of London’s top jazz venues and festivals across the country. Mark’s own group features his clarinet and tenor with the brilliant guitar playing of Colin Oxley. Colin is a graduate of the Guildhall School who has pursued a highly successful musical career, and was voted Jazz Musician of the Year by the Worshipful Company of Musicians in 2000. In between touring and recording Colin is a professor of Jazz Guitar at the Guildhall.

Suitable for 8 - 16 years Places cost £130 Siblings £110 If your kids have a passion for dance, drama and singing, sign them up for this one week theatre workshop which offers young people the chance to perform a Broadway musical classic in a professional theatre with costumes, sets and lights! Similar to previous successful summer schools, Fame Jr, Guys & Dolls Jr and High School Musical Jr, pupils will work under the guidance of a highly skilled professional team, treading the boards, mastering the dance routines, perfecting the lines and putting on a show for family and friends in just one week. Winner of nine Tony Awards, Fiddler on the Roof Jr. centres on the story of Tevye and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish traditions. Featuring the musical numbers ‘Sunrise Sunset’, ‘Matchmaker’, ‘Tradition’ and ‘If I Were a Rich Man’, the original Broadway production was the first musical in history to surpass 3,000 performances and for 10 years held the record for the longest running Broadway musical!

The popular comic strip heroine Little Orphan Annie takes centre stage in ‘Annie Kids’, an adaptation of one of the world's best loved musicals. With plenty of parts to go around, including featured roles as well as ensemble parts this workshop is perfectly adapted for ages 4 to 7 years. Its bright, tuneful score is easy to sing and filled with familiar numbers like “It’s a Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow.” If your little one is a budding performer then this is the workshop for you!

A great big kids disco party for the whole family to enjoy. We will have a professional DJ, exciting disco lights and all your favourite pop music - just like a proper grown up disco. Put on your party gear and join us for the ultimate disco party. There will be juice and biscuits on hand as well as a disco dancing competition (there’ll even be one for the grown ups too!).
A special one day course which gives children the chance to perform on the stage of a real theatre. The workshop will be based on a popular piece of children’s literature.

Surrey Mozart Players open their 2014-15 season with the welcome return of star violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky to play the dramatic Sibelius Violin Concerto. True to their roots, they pay homage to Mozart with his overture 'The Impresario' and, in a piece of innovative programming, conclude their concert with a new arrangement for orchestra of Brahms' Second Piano Quartet, made by the orchestra's dynamic conductor Kenneth Woods. WEEKLY DRAMA WORKSHOPS With the emphasis on fun and performance, our after school drama workshops are designed specifically to develop skills that will benefit children for life. Activities include an exciting mix of improvisation, role play, drama games, movement and teamwork, fuelling the imagination whilst working towards performance opportunities with new friends. Above all, they're great fun. All children need to bring with them is enthusiasm. It doesn't matter if they’ve never done any drama before; we all have to start somewhere. PARKING Parking at The Electric Theatre is strictly for disabled patrons. Bedford Road Car Park is just a few minutes walk from the Theatre on Onslow Street. Parking is £1.20 an hour during the day and £1 per evening visit after 6pm. On Sundays parking is £1.50 per visit. For further information and up to date charges visit Guildford Borough Council’s website at www.guildford.gov.uk TRAIN Guildford mainline Station is only a short walk from the Theatre. BUS An extensive local bus service (including Park and Ride) is available from the Friary Bus Station, again a short distance from the Theatre. ON FOOT From the town centre, there is an underpass between New Look and TK Maxx in Friary Street. Alternatively, if you are coming from the Friary Shopping Centre, Bus Station or Train Station, there are pedestrian crossings. CYCLISTS Bike racks are located alongside the Theatre, just by the main entrance.
