What inspires you most when thinking of Atlanta? Atlanta is like a Mini-New York with all the attributes of a diverse city but being more neigborly and much smaller. Atlantians have their own walk of life melting the Southern peculiarities with influences from all kinds of international cultures.
What would you say makes your Art unique?

There must be something that is catching my eye, a certain pose, a unique vintage look, an interesting impression on the face that inspires me to start painting. My art is transporting a certain atmosphere, and is creating a unique feeling. I am working out the essence of a situation like a Jazz Musician playing his instrument, or people dancing in the streets that animate you to join in.
What will your next project look-like? Currently I am combining different elements, among these elements are i.e. murals, body painting, photography and light painting. The idea is to create an intense and atmospheric performance art.

Painting with Light Corey Barksdale & Lawrence Andrade
L
ight Painting is a photographic technique dating back to the beginning of photography. Several exposures are made by either moving the camera or the light source itself. Artist Man Ray, known for his “rayographs” (photogram), experimented with light painting in his series “space writing” in the 1930th. (Link light painting history).
Corey Barksdale and Lawrence Andrade, two Atlantian based artists, use primarily unique and atmosphereic settings for their light paintings - i.e. an abandoned prison in Atlanta with the light shining partly on murals and graphities decorating the walls today. Light painting can intensify an atmosphere and changes literally the light of a place and its perception. And, asking the artist Corey Barksdale, it captures the movement and motion of a situation and brings this to life. Europe’s Trade-Fair Trends Simulations, virtual realities, more kinetic elements
Schiffini GmbH & Co KG
Schiffini is a German based Company designing, procuring, and providing professional Equipment and Services for Trade Shows, Events and TV Shows.
T
oday there is a trend to use the advantages of virtual techniques in European trade shows, especially by companies whose products cannot be displayed easily in small spaces. As a result, the size of the trade show floor is no longer a bottleneck for reaching the customer. Modern trade show concepts are focusing on a combination of virtual techniques with smart planning and integration of kinetic elements and appealing lighting concepts. Examples of this include: a counter/bar that can be turned ‘on demand’ into the center of the trade show space for an evening event or the movement of modular displays and LED walls into the customer’s center of attention when presenting certain products. Despite all the technical advancements, all these modern concepts have one thing in common – the point of sale is still a personal experience between the company and the customer and a positive connection is best achieved in an environment that is well-designed and properly lighted.

Integrated US-German Business Services CPCon is a consulting agency for US-German companies with offices in Atlanta, GA; Düsseldorf, Germany
The idea “CPCon buys American” is a simple credo describing what the idea behind “integrated business services” really is: The addition of a local employee pool to your team to launch your product in a new market successfully. The ‘buying-local’ strategy accellerates a company’s localization process and its product acceptance in the new market. CPCon provides customers with an existing integrated business network in the US and Germany and helps in pairing business specialists with international teams (i.e. US Sales Consultants/ German Sales Controller; German Steuerberater/local US CPAs). CPCon is a bilingual interface providing integrated services. “Project Control with one central contact per project.” Modern work models - like integrated business services - are advantageous, but typically come with higher administration requirements/costs. CPCon provides one central, bilingual interface to the customer, project members, freelancers, cooperation partners and/or other consultants – without additional agency fees. “We are the missing link.” Changing project demands need to be closely monitored in order to optimize the overall market strategy. Solutions are tailored for each situation to meet the customer’s needs. hitewater rafting on the Chattooga River was pioneered by canoeing enthusiasts during the early 1970’s. The 1972 film “Deliverance,” brought awareness, controversy, and interest to the fairly unknown stretch of river, which at the time was to be dammed, flooded and covered by a reservoir. In 1974, due in part to the movie and efforts of whitewater paddlers, the river was set aside for protection by President Richard Nixon under the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. Chattooga is a unique place with crystalline, blue green waters that flow through an untamed and remote gorge. Of the three river sections commercially run, Section 4 is the most challenging. Southeastern Expeditions was the first rafting company to operate trips on Section 4 downstream of Woodall Shoals. Reknowned grade 4-5 rapids on this part of the river include – 7 Ft Falls, Raven’s Chute, Corkscrew, Jawbone, and Sock’Em Dog. Section 4 of the Chattooga River Corkscrew Rapid - GA/SC border. Photo by: Southeastern Expeditions www.southeasternexpeditions.com Paddlers: Linc Stallings and Southeastern Expeditions customers.
The Chattooga is not dam (hydroelectric) controlled. It’s one of the last wild, free flowing rivers in the Southeastern US, and is rain dependent with the high flows occurring from March through June. However, rafting trips are offered from March through the “secret season” in October. To reduce impact on the river environment and enhance the wilderness experience, outfitters on the Chattooga are regulated by a limited number of trips and participants. Spaces fill up quickly, so book ahead. Paddling in the Southeast: Linc Stallings | 706-970-9053 southernwatertrails.com

ince 1983 the German School of Atlanta is teaching students to improve their German language skills on 30 Saturdays throughout the year. German classes are offered to native speakers and non-native speakers beginning at pre-school age through young adolescence. Classes are being taught at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in small classes of max. 25 students and are accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission. This non-profit organization depends heavily on fund raising events and the efforts of volunteers and every effort is made to keep tuition costs at reasonable levels to encourage more students to enroll. The school offers a German library and has access to the Antolin online reading database, which encourages students to evaluate the German books they read. This is a fun way of practicing German reading and writing skills.

n recent years, millions of positions have disappeared from the American job market. College graduates face a significant challenge this time each year finding jobs. With such a competitive market, many graduates quickly become frustrated during a job search. Economic Climate: Currently it is an ideal time for expatriate companies to invest in real estate in Georgia. The combination of low interest rates and the recession has made real property affordable and attractive.
2
Mode of Ownership: Most companies decide to create a single-asset entity to hold real property. The single asset entity provides liability and tax benefits for the Owner. Owners can hold property either through a corporation, limited liability company, partnership, or limited partnership. Many attorneys and accountants find the limited liability company to be an ideal entity to hold real estate. LLCs are very easy and inexpensive, to set up, and they provide the liability protections of a corporation. Moreover, LLCs provide tremendous flexibility.

In addition to marking a key point of construction, the ceremony is intended to thank the people working on the house and it gives the homeowner an opportunity to provide food and drinks in their honor. The ceremony is not only fun, but it is intended to bring luck and good spirits to the new home.

iving in the Southern United States as an expatriate has its benefits and its challenges. Atlanta, Georgia, and the entire Southeastern region are desirable destinations for professionals. However, these benefits make it easy overlook the pitfalls of a foreign assignment.
This is especially true for European expats who expect their adopted home to be similar to the one they are leaving behind. This ‘illusion of similarity’, combined with American experiences made as a tourist can easily set expats up for disappointment. Cultural differences, misjudgments about the daily living environment, the linguistic skills gap and a predisposition for making (false) assumptions create the perfect setting for misunderstandings. In fact, roughly 20% of all executives who move abroad for a new role with their company give up and return home within two years - well before the end of their assignment - leaving their employers in a difficult positions. Often too little time and resources are spent on helping expats assimilate into a new culture. Many companies also fail to assess the “cultural adaptabilty” within their talent pool - a important skill for foreign assignment success.

The award winning Hyatt Regency hotel in Atlanta first opened in 1967. At this time it was the tallest building of Atlanta. Architect John Calvin Portman Jr. designed an open-air 22-story atrium with a revolving bluedomed rooftop restaurant that soon became a “mustsee” tourist attraction and visitor magnet. The Polaris restaurant closed in 2004 and with it a part of Atlanta’s architectual history.

A Southern Barbecue, a wood engraving from a sketch by Horace Bradley, published in Harper‘s Weekly, July 1887
The History of Southern Style BBQ More than just a style of cooking - a distinctly American food
B
BQ is said to be named first by the Spanish explorers that used the word “barbacoa” to describe the Caribbean natives’ way of slow-cooking meat over a wooden platform. The advantageous culinary technique established fast in the American South. Pigs were prevalent in the region, so pork became the primary meat at BBQs. Due to the fact that corn grows better in the humid Southern climates, corn bread emerged as the main side dish. Today there are four major BBQ styles. Among the oldest styles are Memphis and Carolina, which mainly use pork, and the more contemporary BBQ styles of Kansas City and Texas, which also serve beef as well as pork. BBQ does not require expensive cuts of meat and became a popular dietary staple of rural Southerners. In the first half of the 20th century, a migration wave from the rural South to the Northern cities expanded the reach of this regional style of cooking into Northern restaurants. By the 1950s, BBQ restaurants could be found all over the US along with other ‘Southern style’ foods like fried chicken, hush puppies (deep fried cornbread) and other ‘soul food’ favorites.
BBQ meat is cooked for a long period of time at low temperatures with smoke from a wood fire. The resulting flavor is a combination of smoke, meat juices, and spices added.
