I see design as an intersection of simplicity, functionality, and logic. I am attracted to the parts of life that have deep meaning, but are also beautiful to surround yourself in. The built environment should be effective in its function and beautiful in its form. My inspiration comes from so many areas of my life. It can stem from something as small as shadows cast on the ground, to the way I was brought up as a child. My mother loved the outdoors and gardening, giving me an appreciation for plant life and the beauty that comes with gardens. My father had an immense appreciation for design, having a background in architecture. My father, however, made a career out of the Military, giving my family the opportunity to see the world, and now much of my inspiration stems from my cultural experiences in places like Wales, Germany, and South Korea. This is perhaps also where the structure and logicality of my design comes. There are endless ways in the ďŹ eld of Landscape Architecture can make contributions to the world and the people who occupy it. I personally look forward positive way to enhance communities. Creating a space that’s inviting and has a clear purpose, even something used for a small, afternoon picnic, gives people a reason to appreciate the space in the hopes that it brings meaning to their lives.

The idea behind Mosside neighborhood and retail design was to create a community space for all types of people. Townhouses, singlefamily neighborhoods, apartments, and retail spaces all emphasize this idea of community inclusion. Seated in north-western Athens, Georgia, the Mosside installation allows for shoppers, park-goers, ďŹ shermen and dog walkers to enjoy the conveniences of all that Mosside has to offer.

When designing both commercial and residential sectors for Mosside Drive, vegetation types were taken into account and depended on for placement of residential and retail spaces. The evergreen and mixed- vegetation area takes up the much of the single-family homes in the north part of the site. Privacy, conservation, and beauty were kept in mind when designing. The other evergreen section was used in screening out noise from trafďŹ c to the apartment complexes above retail.
The design gives several opportunities for those living in and out of the housing provided. The retail is open for public use; however, the residential and lakeside areas are all intended for those within the housing limits.

The Oceanside Plaza holds several purposes. Recreation, retail, restaurant seating, exercise, and more. Based off the universal symbol of protection, known as vvvthe cross, the sunken walkways topped by arching vines engulf you in that sense of protection. Each raised platform of the plaza serves a different purpose from the next.

Above is the planting plan for the site. The plants chosen to be native to the area. This allows for non invasive species to take over, and allows for easier maintenance and overall growth. 12

The purpose of the Southern Brewing Company Redesign was to add a sense of community to what essentially is the backyard of SBC. Taking a look at average attendance in events, age ranges, rainfall percentage, and existing wildlife, the group devised a redesign plan to cater any and all needs.

This assortment of plants were chosen because they are easy to maintain for the staff of Southern Brewing Company. When arranged systematically, the colors, textures, and scents compliment each other, and add visual appeal to the space.
Long rectangular fireplace to allow for warmth, community, and visual appeal.

Shown is a 3D SketchUp model of seven, 90’x36’ greenhouses. Given the plans and dimensions from Gro-Tech Systems, I drafted in AutoCAD the preliminary structure of the greenhouses. From there I imported it into SketchUP to create a model of how the greenhouses would appear on site. My drafts and renderings were displayed in local city hall meetings for approval before construciton. 22

Shown are a handful of personal sketches and watercolor paintings from my time abroad. While studying in Cortona, Italy, students were given free time on the weekends. I used mine to learn and practice quick sketching. During our landscape illustration class, I focused on watercolor as my main medium.
