Next Generation House in Taiki-Cho,Hokkaido,Japan 3rd Prize with team The „5-Tree House“ was designed for an Invited Competition held by TOSTEM Foundation for Construction Materials Industry Promotion In JaPan. We have been working in a multidisciplinary team of Engineers and Architects. Selected by the Jury which also consisted of Kengo Kuma we got awarded with the 3rd Prize. The next generation approach takes a more nuanced view towards the challenge of sustainable living. By understanding the limitations and advantages of available technology, the Five Tree House enables a new sustainable lifestyle rather than passively supporting an outdated one. Utilizing a micro CHP (Combined Heat and Power) system powered by wooden pellets, the house achieves its heating and electricity needs annually through the consumption of ve trees. The ve trees provide a renewable and carbon neutral energy resource that is no longer an abstract source of energy, but one that the inhabitants of the home can actively support through the annual planting of trees.

As the community grows, the planted trees enhance the community in the form of a recreational forest. The trees grow to replace the existing technical infrastructure that is complex and vulnerable to outages. The forest is a more resilient source of energy and promotes a healthy relationship with nature.

Helsinki Central Library Helsinki, Finland

The task was to design the new Central Library of Helsinki. The most challenging part was the wish to create an entirely new and modern concept of a library. In my project I am creating a lot of open spaces which allows very flexible usage. The room program offers the classic reading, working and computer places as well as an auditorium, exhibition space and a variety of café´s and shops.I am creating a cut in the volume orientated towards the people flow coming from Kampii, and therefore from the centre of Helsinki. The strong interior concept is dominated through a large void on every floor which is shifting towards Töölönlahti Bay. This allows the visitor to have a look through the entire building and all the way to the terrace of the Café on the upper floor while entering the building. The Facade consists of white Trespapanels in a seize of 4mx4m. The cutouts are createt for every usage of the library and allow a comfortable outlook from the inside by reducing suninfluence and sight into the building.

Concept In order to find the right shape for the new Helsinki Central Library I analyzed where the main entrance should be. Due to the fact, that Kamppi is the new cnter of Helsinki I decided to make a cut in the volume to lead the people coming from Kamppi into the building. The shape turned out to be not too organic and free shaped because of cost- and energyefficiency.

After deciding to cut the volume to guide people into the library, the journey ad to continue inside. The main idea in the inside are steadyly shifting voids, which lead towards a generous outdoor space and a skybar on the top floor.

Trespa Trespa is a flat panel based on thermosetting resins, homogenously reinforced with wood fibres and manufactured under high pressure and temperature.

The green High rise City Espoo, Finland

The overall idea is to create a selfsufficient and ecological high rise city. The proposal is a “plug in city” which means I plug the new buildings partly on top of the existing buildings, to create a better ground connection. In addition to this I also introduce a second street level on the 8th floor which will be filled with life and activities. To not entirely isolate the second street level there will be a biking path leading towards the top. There are interactive stops on the way. There are three different kinds of towers in this project. #1 - the “traffic tower”, consisting of a staircase and elevators, which solves the vertical connection and always provides three other towers by photovoltaic cells to produce energy. Tower #2 - is the “production tower”, which includes vertical farming, as well as waste recycling, geothermal heating, and a selfsufficient waterpurification system. The Facade will be partly covered by rainwater collectors which will in the process be to provide plants and animals. The #3 high rise tower is the living/ working/studying tower. Spaces can be rent by the University, as well as independent companies. In addition apartments will be sold and rented out. The Facade contains of a living wall system which will allow CO2 absorption and a green environment.

Family Holiday Resort, Sann채s, Finland with Oula Rahkonen In 2012 the Municipality of Sysm채 in Southern Finland invited Students in an open Architecture Competition to Design a Holdiday Resort for the Area. Our Proposal focuses on a year round Usage of the Area. We target on the one hand tourists from all over Finland which will have the chance to rent one of the cabins for a week or two but on the other hand we also target the local people. Families which live in the surrounding and just want to spend a relaxing day or weekend but also school children from the neighbouring cities. The planned area involves besides the cabins also a main building with public facilities as well as a lot of outdoor activities such as a mountain bike track, a rope course, a educational nature path, boating and swimming facilities.

LOMA-ASUNNOT Päädyimme sijoittamaan Ilolaan kahta eri mökkityyppiä. Yhtenäistä konseptia on varioitu kahdeksi yksikerroksiseksi puurakennukseksi. Pitäydyimme vain yhdessä kerroksessa, koska lisäkerroksia edellyttävät portaat syövät väistämättä käyttöpintaalaa. Lisäksi kompakti muoto säästää lämmitys ja ilmastointikuluissa. Molemmissa rakenne perustuu kevyeeseen puupalkkirakenteeseen. Tehokkaan eristyksen ja kolminkertaisen lasituksen ansiosta mökkejä voidaan käyttää vuoden ympäri.

Teema Pääideana rakennustyypeissä on laaja yhteistila, johon elämä keskittyy.

TERASSI

VAR.

Arkkitehtuuri Molemmissa mökeissä on samanlainen muotokieli. Esitetyt rakennukset on mitoitettu maksimiinsa. Jonka johdosta enimmäishenkilömäärät mökeissä (8/10) ovat suuret. Mökeissä voidaan helposti vaihtaa osan makuuhuoneiden sängyistä kaappitilaksi, tarpeen tullen. Pohjat venyvät monen tyyppiseen tarpeeseen ja tarjoavat tilan huomattavan laajoille kohderyhmille.

Town House - Bachelor Thesis Dresden, Germany My Bachelor Thesis was a project in cooperation with the city of Dresden. The task was to create Townhouses in the downtown Dresden, to provide high standard living in the center. In my design I focuse on two different residences. The building facing the “Wallstraße” consists of commercial space as well as living space on the upper floors. In the part facing the canal-side and therefore the calmer and greener part of the plot I am creating a single family house with a back yard. The canal-side house is characterized by a high standard of individuality. Different levels are tailored for the needs of a family with 2-3 children. On every floor the plateaus are shifting and also creating interesting interior views. The same concept can be found on the commercial space on the “Wallstraße” side. The upper living floors are defined throughout very flexible furniture which is offers the user a high chance of creating rooms and spaces to their personal needs.

Animating Form Workshop 3D Maya Modelling with Abel Groenewolt Animating Form was a intensive workshops that introduced powerful tools for digital design and fabrication. The course introduced students to advanced animation based form generation techniques, sub-division surface modeling and digital visualisation with Maya Modelling software. Goal of the intensive workshop was to build a „creature“ using the newly learned techniques. The teacher Steven Ma is a design architect for Coop-himmelb(L)au in Vienna, specialized in digital visualizations, 3d management & productions.

Lamp Wood and Fabric Cable This lamp was the first project of that kind I´ve been working on. The main idea is to have a easily height adjustable lamp which allows you perfect lightning for example reading on your couch. The lamp is made from alder wood and a beautiful orange fabric cable. the white porcelain lightbulb socket gives a nice contrast to the redish alder and the orange cable.

Shoeshelf Plywood and Rubber band

This shoeshelf is made for easy vertical storage for three pairs of shoes. The idea derived from my own lack of space to have an traditional horizontal shoeshelf in my apartment. The shoes are simply fixed by a white rubber band. The plywood pieces are entirely cut and engraved with a lasercutter. Opening on the back side allow you to wall mount several shelfs above each other.

Folded Sculpture Metal My final work in the visual art class is a metal sculpture. This very expressive sculpture is significant for it´s sharp edges and corners. It gives the impression of a folded up piece of metal and it actually really is. The entire scultpure is made out of one piece of steel-plate which I folded and welded afterwards.
