Barossa Valley The Barossa Valley wine region has more than 13,000 hectares under vine is located around 70km north-east of Adelaide in South Australia. Heavily settled by German Lutheran migrants back in the 1840’s, much of the regions success today relates back to the original plantings by some of these people more than 100 years ago.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
With a number of sixth generation growers now producing grapes, the Barossa Valley is home to some of the oldest vines in the world, with the earliest vines dating back to 1847. Currently there are more than 100 different producers that can be found in the region. When it comes to grape varieties the region is dominated by reds variants such as Shiraz, Cabernet or Grenache, but there is no doubt that Shiraz is the king of the Barossa. Renowned for their rich, full-bodied wines that are intensely coloured and flavoured, the Barossa Valley has helped launch Australian wine on to the world scene with wines such as Penfold’s Grange and Henshcke’s Hill of Grace.
