Faced with the barrier of redundant road ways and the threat of rising sea levels our project takes action at the next level to address these issues; one level up. The transformation of the Trelleborg Port takes place in more than one dimension in time and space. Rather than densifying a flood zone, Level Up, proposes to take advantage of this level to introduce a new type of production based on climate and oceanic experimentation.
EXISTING CONNECTION Program Transition
The transformation is not only of the Port itself; this project will have an impact on the existing condition of the town as well. A solid relationship between the new development and the existing town is essential for the success of the project. Careful thought of building footprint/height and programming was put in to assure a strong connection and animated activities that would complement the historic city center rather than replace it.
REGIONAL PLAYER Research Hub
Trelleborg is a hidden secret and opportunity between the plains and the ocean; and on a larger scale, potentially part of the metropolitan region Malmo-LundCopenhagen. The new development has the opportunity to create a place for meeting and a center higher education, research, and experimentation. Hybridization between local and global economies creates attractivity for more than education but also for housing and labor. A research hub provides a structured economy, allowing building development to adapt and realign with city growth at a constant rate.

Inspired by the FÖP, the Level Up project develops strategies in several spatial dimensions as well as in several stages. An intelligent framework is put into place to adapt and realign the spatial configuration as the city needs. Each stage is designed to be complete and complementary to the upcoming stage just in case growth stalls or goals change; and each stage is designed to be flexible enough to welcome new growth and programmatic needs. The productive urban transition is strategic and incremental; levels and types of production may differ depending on the stage of the project. For example, during periods of vacancy on the port site for depollution or project design, the Level Up project proposes stand-by uses such as parks or viewing platforms to maintain an animated and active environment.

Resilient City Tool-Kit
The principal advantage of the Level Up project is its resistance to climate change and rising sea levels. Zoning, or property division, in 3D allow for innovative and sustainable solutions that interact with public space and participate with new residential urban neighborhoods. Each solution proposed in the Resilient City ToolKit participates in the longterm identity and atmosphere of Trelleborg by protecting it from threats but also by finding new opportunity in change.

Section 1:1000 Level 0, the Experimentation Level (between what is today the level of the quay and +3 meters), welcomes program that can be easily adapted to changing water levels. Research bassins, public outdoor spaces, among other outdoor program are placed at this level to create an animated urban environment but also a floodproof and secure future city.

Layering of program and typoligies adds diversity activity necessary for dynamic growth, and ultimatly adds sustainable technical solutions integrated into urban neighborhoods.
LIVING IN A PRODUCTIVE ENVIRONMENT New Modes of Learning and Working New opportunity presented on 90ha of waterfront land creates many new questions for the city of Trelleborg related to development. Level Up imagines a new mixed development involving actors from specialized marine researchers to technical labor forces to family. A mix of social classes and generations will help confront gentrification and foster a new and genuine vibrant urban district. Level Up combines uses on different levels to reduce distance between thinking, making, and living, thus encouraging new modes of learning, working, and living. Each neighborhood and programmation is carefully considered to bring everyday pleasures into the workplace ecology while at the same time creating a new bustling economy.

New paths encourage mobility and connect the city to the new area. Redundant roadways are replaced with secure urban boulevards, and forgotten coastlines a revealed by urban pedestrian trails. These paths inspire curiosity and help Trelleborg citizens discover the hidden treasures of the port.
Program in 3D encourages production in the city by making it part of the urban fabric. Production is allowed to be seen, connected to shared daily life, nurtured and celebrated on the ground experimention level. The sum of differences creates attractiveness.

It will take more than one actor to incite dynamic change in Trelleborg, every inhabitant, every tourist, student, research, businessman, and worker will be involved in the transformation. Future Trelleborg is a place of shared identity for this very reason. Nwew property divisions in 3D will inspire a new way of interacting and participating in the city. Development will not be seen only in two dimensions but shared among different levels. housing NEW HOUSING NEIGHBORHOODS Even on a bleak November day, when the sun barely rises above the trees a mix of hieghts, densities and three-dimensional propery allows for a cozy enviroment with views towards the sea.
FISH FARM A fishfarm in the waters of the new bay will provide for reasearch and food supply. A bay protected by the new dike with filtered water creates calm, clean waters for ideal production.
