Ray Strong (1905-2006): Preferring to work en plein air throughout his career, Strong was dedicated to rendering the landscape in a representational manner. Strong was born in Corvallis, Oregon, and in the 1920s enrolled in the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco (now San Francisco Art Institute). He left the program to attend The Art Students League of New York, where he also studied with Frank Vincent DuMond. Upon returning to San Francisco in the 1930s, Strong founded The Art Students League of San Francisco with Maynard Dixon, George Post, and Frank van Sloun. During the Depression, Strong produced easel paintings and murals for the Public Works of Art Project. One of these W.P.A. paintings was of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge - a painting taken into the White House collection by F.D.R. Moving to Santa Barbara in 1960, he was commissioned to paint background settings for the dioramas in the Bird Hall at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. In 1986, Strong co-founded The Oak Group in Santa Barbara, a collective of artists dedicated to painting and preserving the natural landscape.

Participants can enjoy a relaxing evening with appetizers paired with signature varietals, like local Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and some cool climate Rhones. Tickets are $40.

Participants, friends, and family members can pick up their race packets, engage with race sponsors, learn about the winery region, and attend a seminar at 2pm presented by Dockstader on how to best experience the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon. Free.

Once runners cross the ﬁnish line, the celebration gets underway with the Post Race Wine and Music Festival! There will be over 15 wineries and local breweries pouring, along with live music, set in the center of Solvang. Space is limited in the Wine Tasting Area at Solvang Park. All registered runners 21+ may purchase one discounted wine glass ($25) plus one additional glass ($35) for a guest. The festival is presented by Alaskan Airlines.
