OREGON IS RIPPING OFF SCHOOLS AND LEAVING OUR KIDS A LEGACY OF WASTELANDS.
WE HAVE A SOLUTION: OREGON COULD LEAD THE WORLD IN FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE BY PROTECTING FORESTS.
WE CAN HAVE FORESTS AND FORTUNE. Oregon law requires the Elliott to generate revenue for schools. Clearcutting has been the sole income generator in the past, but an exciting new opportunity is emerging: Oregon could protect the Elliott as a Carbon Reserve and make money for schools through carbon payments. Carbon markets are in their infancy, but we know carbon will have value.
DO YOU KNOW THE TOP 2 C A U S E S O F C L I M AT E CHANGE?
The first is famous: burning
fossil fuels. From coal to gasoline, we are pumping carbon from the earth into the air, causing a warming effect. The second leading cause: loss of forests. In a short period, humans have cleared the majority of the world’s trees, collapsing the lungs that remove carbon from the air and store it in the ground. According to the UN, this accounts for 20-25% of global warming! Trees act like giant sponges soaking up carbon from the air. No ecosystem on Earth stores more carbon per acre than Pacific Northwest rainforests. Even the Amazon rainforests and Congo jungle do not come close to the carbon capacity of our forests, including the Elliott.
WE DESERVE BETTER. OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER.
WE NEED YOUR HELP:
PLEASE ASK OREGON’S TOP LEADERS (THE GOVERNOR, SECRETARY, & TREASURER) TO PROTECT THE ELLIOTT AS A CARBON RESERVE.
