In 2016, I started taking up charcoal classes to teach myself how to expand my drawing.
We learned that when using charcoal, you always start from the back, and work your way up to the front. Using charcoal turned out to be one of my favorite mediums, however I still wanted to branch out and try something new.
Before i moved onto something new, I had to perfect the charcoal drawings.
I tried different portraits, all sizes, and I also practiced personal portraits as well.
I then went on to college, where I became a graphic design major.
I lived on campus and made sure that everyday Id make a new drawing for everyones dorm room door. The more I practiced, the better I became.
I started to love drawing cartoons and I couldnt get enough of it. I knew that I had chosen the right field, but I needed a little more practice.
Graphic Design Work
In college I made canvases for many people, and I realized how much I like to paint.
However, this was not enough. I needed to seek for more.
Although i wanted to hurry and find something new, I kept up with my side job and still made canvases for others
This kept me occupied for some time, but I was ready for a challenge..
Challenge Galore THE LET ENGE CHALL !!! BEGIN
As I practiced painting on different size canvases, I learned how easy it was to transition a design to another item, no matter the size. During this nart transition, I switched to a new college. The college I went to before did not focus on the art students. So I transferred to DCAD. Even though I have to start over as a freshman, Im happy I got to do it again.
One day my mom stepped all over my new white vans. I was mad that I would not be able to wear them, but then realized that was my opportunity to paint my shoes. Once I did my first pair, I started a business where anyone could order shoes and have them sent to me to paint on. Then I send them back, and customers are happy.
My journey has opened my eyes to plenty of new art ideas. But I believe the best decision I have made throughout that journey was coming to DCAD. I am able to branch out and try all these new techniques, and I also get to have fun in my classes as well.
