RURAL STUDIO SKATEPLAY : LIONSPARK PHASE IV In 2005, Rural Studio began work on Lions Park in Greensboro, Alabama. A forty acre park jointly owned by Hale County, the City of Greensboro, and the Greensboro Lions Club. The initial design team, composed of five Auburn University architecture thesis students, received a $500,000 grant from Baseball Tomorrow to improve the baseball fields’ layout and infrastructure.

Three of the current students are challenged with designing and building a skatepark and a playground. To save resources and integrate these typically urban elements into a rural landscape, the students propose using landforms to soften the park and reduce construction cost.

BRANSCOMB COMMUNITY CENTER

The project consisted of revitalizing the existing wing of the Branscomb community center and adding an addition that allows for a new central courtyard entrance. The new wing, which encloses the courtyard, helps to provide more space for after school activates. Branscomb is a community complex of the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority.

ROMA PORTA PORTESE RIVER FRONT Situated on the edge of the Tiber River near Porta Portese, the site encompasses the river walk, retaining embankment, and plinth of the Arsenal. Due to its steep slope and alien scale the river walk is completely disconnected from Porta Portese.

The proposal is to allow for the navigation of the dividing embankment and provide viewing spaces that extend from the plinth of the Arsenal while allowing opportunities to rest, view, and interact with the local roman surroundings.

BOSTON CROSS STREET HOUSING | BIG DIG Rejuvenate the North End’s urban edge with an architecture that activates the Big Dig’s “boundary”. Generate this with one gesture that encompasses the complexity of site, program, context, form, and function. Recapture the opportunity that a street corner provides.

Shake hands with your neighbors in terms of scale, materiality, composition. allow for the mingling of public and private. provide flexibility in both retail and housing units.

ROMA MUSUEM OF CARTOGRAPHY

Cartography and Architecture both use lines and symbols to aid in visualizing space. Carthography rest on the premise that the world is measurable and that humans can make representations of that reality. Architecture relies upon the will of mankind to translate into space their ethos.

OPELIKA PUBLIC LIBRARY

Skin development for the Opelika Public Library was very early on the driving vehicle of design. The skin itself was derived from nature. A poinsettia leaf was the vehicle chosen from nature that became the aesthetic and structural inspiration for the library.
