transport hub

Creative hub campanha

Campanha lies in the eastern part of Porto. A city part divided form the

central Porto by the main train lines and the Campanha station in the west. On the east side of Campanha it is enclosed by the ”Regional Interna do Porto” Motorway running around the city, and thereby creating a infrastructual island. But even though the citypart in someway is enclosed. It is on the other hand visually in contact with a lot of the south-western part of the city by its heigh vantage point in the hilly terrain of Porto, which also give it a direct connection to the Douro River. The near distance connection Campanha have to the one of only two trainstations in Porto gives the area both a infrastructurial advantage to the metro and train, but on the other hand also a bad sideeffect of a ”barrier” by the railway line. In terms of demografic statestics the municipality of Porto manifested that the city part of Campanha is unfavorable composed, with a high degree of people without education, social instability and a high degree of elderly people that cant work. A consequnces not only caused by bad infrastructure but rather a compination linked with the fact that Campanha lost big parts of its industry back in the 80’es, and therfor got a high degree of unemployed people. The result; people moving away from the citypart to find new jobs. A statesthic made by the municipality showed that Campanha had a 15 % degress in inhabitans in the area from 2001 to 2011 which is around 6000 people leaving the citypart.

The intension is develop a building structure or place that essentially is

a Creative Hub of different companys and workshops. A place thats meets peoples individual needs in terms of creating and devolop their idea or businesses. It should have wide spread of possibilities and spaces that could both accomodate people who want to have a company for a group of persons to the everyday individual that just want have a place to study with his or hers small ideas. The building structure should not be a closed instance but instead be deeply integrated in the site and become a part of the landscape. It should be about framing Campanha and its great, making a landscape of courtyards and spaces that will open the dense structure of the city. By creating a Creative Hub designed for small companys, start-ups and individuals its also a detachment from the idea of big industrys keeping the area alive. It should be kept by something far less vulnerable and much more flexible. It should be the many and the locals creating succes instead of the few, giving them owner ship of the place. The building structure should itself be flexibal and maybe even extendable or detachable.

FROM THE OCEAN TO THE TABLE

REstaurant

cafeteria foodlab Fishmonger

Smokery

The vision is to make a space that tells the story of the fish getting from the ocean to the table - ”Journey of the fish” we could call it. A building endorsing the existing spirit of the fishing harbor but bringing a twist to it. The space will contain the existing cafeteria, cold smokery and fishmonger that a situated there today in coherence with a new restaurant and a Foodlab. It should be build upon the ideas of the existing fishing community and companys and respect the spaces and equipment it take to make fresh food. Spaces endorsing the tranquillity that the fishermen needs in their breaks and restaurants guest in the nights. But also the openes, busyness and productivity that makes for a good effecient company and show the different shades of what and industrial harbor have to offer. It should celebrate the proces of food in its different stages, be a transparent proces, not hide anything form the visitors. It should reinforce the differences of being in a restaurant or next to a smokery but without making them awkard neighbours. The visitor should nearly feel him or herself as not only a guest but a part of the process seing a fish get salted or smoked before buying it. The house should in that way not only be a storyteller but also get people exited about food. It should endorse visitors and fishermen who wants a bite of food, a place to relax or study, ”a good night out” and at the same time a workspace. A building with both spaces for specific tasks and others for hybrid programs.
