about: the location-
Higher education learning institution in Washington D.C.
the space-
10,685 square feet, 2 levels, a branch of Next University providing the opportunity for higher education to non-traditional students.
the project-
Individual Software: Revit, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator
responsibilities:
Research, branding, conceptual development, programming, space planning, design development, scheduling/technical documentation, and rendering.
concept & inspiration
NEXT Hub is composed of different layers, just like the sun. The most central part of the design is the atrium. It is intentionally placed near the core of the building to reflect the core of the sun, which is the area of highest intensity. This is meant to be a place that is loud and exciting, keeping the space energetic. Space begins to evolve into classrooms and breakout spaces that are designed for less intense work. This reflects the decrease in intensity of the sun along its outer layers. Warmth and tranquility provided to the Earth by the sun influence the design, shown in the color scheme of materials and glass walls.

Hotel Louis: boutique hotel located in St. Louis, Missouri. Its design is inspired by the old world architecture and jazzy soul of its sister city, New Orleans, Louisiana. Both of these cities were founded by the French and have a heart for jazz, culture, and history. Lobby and guest rooms: derived from the southern charm of the French Quarter. Spa: influenced by the serenity and peace found in the Garden District in Uptown, New Orleans. Restaurant: inspired by the local jazz clubs found on Frenchman Street. Rooftop bar: it’s like taking a walk down Bourbon Street, lively, exciting, and colorful.

rooftop perspective
Rooftop design intent: create a street like atmosphere with multiple bars for guests to choose from. Tile that looks like cobblestone was chosen to create the look of walking down the street without the risk of tripping.
Each menu represents a different bar on the rooftop. This allows the patrons to bar hop just like they would in New Orleans.
restaurant perspective
Restaurant: inspired by historic Frenchman street, a jazz club atmosphere and design elements like exposed brick and wood floors represent things you would see and experience on a walk down Frenchman.
spa perspective
Spa: inspired by a peaceful walk through the Garden District. Greenery is implemented into the treatment rooms to help reduce stress levels and clean indoor air by ridding it of toxins. Low lighting creates a calm ambience.
