W H AT I ’ V E L E A R N E D Working with R. Cartwright Design has guided my growth as a designer. By working behind the scenes of the interior design process, I have gained new insight on the amount of hard work and time required to be successful.

As a certified nurses aide at the Waterford, I have gained another perspective on life and the value of the world around us. Skills I have obtained through my work experiences are design needs for elderly, communication with various age groups, precision details, and daily time management.

IDG Interior Design Group has an extensive fabric library that I spent the majority of my time working with. The fabric library work required strong organizational skills and a thorough knowledge of the different fabrics and their availability. Daily calls to product representatives demanded exceptional communication skills to inquire about products and orders. Working at Children’s Miracle Network allowed me to see that I can have a positive impact on others through my love of art and creativity. During my three years, I was in charge of various projects to help promote the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. When the decision was made to build a new state of the art hospital, and being a part of the opening ceremony, I realized how design could positively affect these patients lives.

Karl Kruz line is embedded into the space through use of angular lines which were extruded from the K of Karl’s logo. The K shape is used not only in the structure and special plan, but also as a way of branding and wayfinding.

LUXURY RESIDENCE INSPIRED BY THE MINOAN CIVILIZATION FROM THE ISLAND OF CRETE SURROUNDED BY THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA.

8

INVERTED REFLECTION The contemporary design embraces the ideals of the Minoan Civilization . Creating layers for hidden new experiences mimics the Minoan positive culture of embracing what is beyond the horizon. Sea inspired curved lines create a fluid like rhythm and movement throughout the space. The earth derived colors reflect the love the Minoan people had for their environment. The colors allow the art within the home to stand as accents to the whole.

SMALL RESIDENTIAL CONDOMINIUM DESIGNED AS A VACATION RESIDENCE. . THIS ONE BEDROOM PLAN USES ADA GUIDELINES AND IS UNIVERSAL AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL.

R O A D M A P CONDOMINIUM

Wanderlust is desiring to travel on an un-mapped path from one point to the next. This concept is imbedded in the design of a vacation condominium for Ellen & Lewis Wayler; two professors who share the same passion for exploration and travel. This condominium encompasses a journey of its own throughout the space by visual stimulation brought on by dimensional play of structure and form. Natural colors will illuminate the free-flowing atmosphere to express the freedom of movement which exhibits the feeling of travel.

THE IDEA OF UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES AND ELEMENTS OF DESIGN THROUGH A PAINTING BY EXTRUDING AND REINTERPRETING THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT INTO A MODEL WHICH IGNITES DESIGN FOR A CAFÉ, HYPOTHETICALLY REPLACING AN EXISTING SPACE ON CAMPUS.

20

GALLERY CAFÉ Inspired by Helen Frankenthalers 1968 painting, “Chalk Zone,” the Christian Peterson Art Museum located in Morill Hall on Iowa State University Campus was theoretically transformed into a café of enchanting and romantic character. Through emphasizing and extracting the emotional and spiritual essence from the painting into sculpture drove the design of our cafe which inhabited the same qualities of the rhythmic painting.

AN INTRODUCTION COURSE INTO FURNITURE MAKING LED TO LEARNING ABOUT DIFFERENT SPECIES OF WOOD, PROPERTIES OF FINISHES, AND THE EXPERIENCE OF DESIGNING & CONSTRUCTING FURNITURE.

Inspired by Gerrit Rietveld’s Zig-Zag chair of the 1930’s. In this design, I extruded the minimalistic, aesthetic, and sharp movement of the zig-zag chair BY wrapping it around into a table form.

I named the Lennox table after the hardest working human that I know, my dad. He manages a Lennox heating & cooling buisiness in the small town of Maquoketa. The metal and wood used for my table were taken from his former shop that was recently torn down. The shape of the table mimics that of a crawlspace and the black paint represents the darkness in the space. The metal reflects the ductwork that runs through crawlspaces.
