Friends, Fellow Breeders and Cattlemen:

We would like to welcome everyone to our 2023 Bull and Female sale. We would like to say thank you to our past customers. We also look forward to building relationships with those of you who may be new to our program.

We are super thrilled this year to have raised the 2023 National Champion Gelbvieh Bull, HTFG Hilltops Hawkeye H064. This young herd sire was our 2021 Purebred Breeders choice Gelbvieh bull futurity entry where he was selected as a runner up. We knew this bull had a ton of potential and with every day this bull just seems to get better just as his sire did in 2019, Mr. Equalizer E711. This year at Cattlemen’s Congress we were able to exhibit Hawkeye in the Supreme Drive competing against 21 other breed champions from across the nation. Hawkeye was selected to be in the top 10. We are so humbled to have been apart of this amazing experience.

Our bull development program is designed for optimum performance and longevity without overfeeding or over fattening that can negatively impact long-term profitability. The heifers that are being offered are straight out of the replacement pen, and we feel are capable of meeting the demands of our customers.

We sincerely appreciate your business and look forward to working with you. Hilltop Farms is committed to raising quality seedstock. We would like to invite you to inspect a tremendous set of cattle that we will be offering on Saturday, March, 4 2023 at Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, MO.

Green Springs Beef Development Center

In the nearly 25 years of being in the business of performance testing beef breeding stock, we have fed bulls for breeders from 22 states. Cattle from as far East as Maryland and as far West as California. Over those years we have performance tested over 15000 bulls and females from some of the best and most progressive cattlemen in the industry.

In that adventure we have learned many lessons. We have learned that in order to provide quality and durable breeding animals, you must feed them at an optimal level. They must be fed enough to perform at a level that lets us find their differences in quality and potential, but they must not be overfed, in order to provide longevity and durability in the long run.

We target bulls to average a daily gain of about 3.5 lbs per day during their test period. We try to have bulls that scan at the end of the test with about .25 inches of rib fat. We feed a high fiber moderate energy ration that has allowed us to meet those targets. With that in mind we can supply producers with bulls that we know a lot about, bulls that gain well, exhibit acceptable carcass traits, grow efficiently, are sound, fertile, and are docile. Bulls that do not meet these thresholds are not acceptable.

The bulls we feed for Hilltop Farms clear these hurdles with flying colors. The bulls handle well. We have almost no health problems before, during, or after the test period. The bulls express good growth characteristics, and exhibit good carcass data. The bulls we have put through the Growsafe System in the past have proven to be more efficient that average, and fertility overall has been excellent. Any bulls that have not excelled in these areas have been culled and are not presented in their sale offerings. That’s what breeders need to do, and anyone that tells you 100% of their bulls meet those standards is probably not someone you need to be buying seed stock from.

The most important aspect of the Hilltop experience is the people. As in any seed stock buying experience, breeder integrity is paramount. My experience with the Mc Williams family has been one that would only enforce that belief. They are no nonsense cattle people. The have a devout respect for performance, genetics, and data, all while keeping a watchful eye on structure, and phenotype.

I believe these are cattle that you can buy with confidence. Confidence not only in the cattle and their ability to deliver, but also in the people and their ability to do the same.

If you have any questions on how the bulls were fed or handled, just let me know. I will be glad to help.

Hope to see you sale day!

HTFG Hilltops Hawkeye H064 has been a farm favorite from the day he was born. We feel that Hawkeye is the best herd sire, bred and raised at Hilltop Farms to date. There are just so many good things to say about this bull. This 89.5%, Homo polled Gelbvieh bull is just built different. Here at Hilltop Farms we are excited to be able to share this one of a kind herd sire. Hawkeye is a son out of the 2019 NWSS Grand Champion Gelbvieh Bull HTFM Mr. Equalizer E711 whom has sired several champions. Hawkeye is also backed with a tremendous dam who is sired by TAU Mr. Solution.

If you are looking for a high percentage Gelbvieh bull, Hawkeye must be on the list. This bull is phenomenal to look at from every angle. On the profile he is super long bodied and gives the extra extension of neck that we all love. He is deep bodied with lots of shape to his lower rib. If you study him from behind, he will not disappoint. Starting at the ground with his foot and bone size that is very impressive along with a huge rear quarter. As you look down his top he carries a tremendous amount of thickness all the way down his spine. Not only is this bull cool to look at but he is also driven by performance. Ranking in top 10% for weaning weight, and 15% for yearling weight and is accompanied by a lighter caving ease and birthweight. His first calves are hitting the ground right now with an average BW of 74 lbs. This bull checks a lot of boxes that come in a super rare packaged of phenotype and performance that is backed by proven genetics. He is A.I qualified through the American Gelbvieh Association with all DNA testing completed.
