Weekly Note & Reminders 12th January 2024

From Mr McKernan (Principal, Whole School) Dear Parents,

Welcome Back – Spring Term 2024 We hope you had a restful break. On behalf of the team, thank you for your kind cards and appreciation at the end of last term.

The Week Ahead No Morning Sports Homework Commences

Monday 15th January Thriving Habits We began our week with the first Spring Term Assembly, which was centred around the theme of 'Thriving Habits’. We focused on the importance of cultivating good sleep practices and learned three valuable tips to ensure our pupils enjoy a restful night’s sleep.

Junior Assembly Board Members Meeting

Tuesday 16th January ‘Stay Safe’ Talk. Parents Seminar (Online) @ 7:30 pm

Create a comfortable sleep environment.

Wednesday 17th January Set a regular bedtime.

Teaching Assembly

Prepare for bedtime by having a news and electronic device blackout (at least one hour before going to bed).

These positive habits are an excellent way to start the term, fostering an environment conducive to thriving throughout the year. We concluded the Assembly with a moment of reflection, contemplating the profound closing lines of John O'Donoghue's poem, 'For A New Beginning’, which set a thoughtful and reflective tone for the term ahead.

“Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning That aligns with your life’s desires. Awaken your spirit to adventure; Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk; Soon, you will find yourself in a new rhythm, For your soul senses the world that awaits you.”

Teaching Assembly - REPS Presentation On Wednesday morning, we had a special visit from Form I in our Senior Teaching Assembly. After welcoming the younger group to the Assembly, the Form VI REPS House Leaders presented a slideshow that highlighted the projects they worked on last term, which showcased the 'VAA of the Month' for November (Agile) and December (Hardworking). November - Agile (Form VI) The Class VI REPS Leaders—Alex, Thady, Orla, and Raonall— conducted an enquiry into the various nationalities represented within the pupil and staff body at Castle Park. They pinpointed global locations, acknowledging and celebrating the rich international diversity that contributes to our unique 'demographic tapestry'. The pupils demonstrated agility in their learning and hard work by dedicating their morning breaks and lunch times to this noteworthy project. December - Hardworking (Form I) The December VAA, 'Hardworking,' was introduced by the REPS leaders. After that, Robin from Form I presented their class 'Positivity Pebbles' project. In this project, Form I worked hard to decorate pebbles with vibrant colours and positive messages like 'Friendship,' 'Be Inclusive,' and 'Respect Others'. Once the pebbles have been weather-coated, they will be placed in our Rose Garden for all to enjoy and to remind us of these important messages.

From Ms Kennedy (Assistant Principal, Early Years) Day Care Our Day Care program is currently at maximum capacity, and unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any additional placements for children across all age groups at this time. We are actively exploring options to address this issue. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the School Office. Finally We are looking forward to a wonderful Spring Term ahead filled with growth, high-performance learning and positive habits.

To be resourceful and use your initiative.

Artist of the Week Sadie Before the Christmas break, the pupils in Form IV worked hard on their mixed-media jungle animals. Inspired by the recycled sculptures of Josh Gluckstein, each pupil created an animal face hidden in the jungle using cardboard, paper and paint, with some 3-D details.

Quote of the Week “Our character is basically a composite of our habits. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character.” ―Stephen Covey
