Castcoat Proven world-leading technology ‘Protect the heart of your machine’ with Castcoat’s world leading technology. Castcoat is a hard ceramic coating which, when applied to continuous caster copper mold plates, provides a hardwearing surface resistant to abrasion and chemical attack. It has been instrumental in extending the operational capability of the mold in line with modern production demands. Now a mature technology with a worldwide customer base, Castcoat continues to provide users by extending mold lives, between refurbishments as much as four times for thick slab casters and up to six times on thin slab caster applications.
Lives in excess of 500,000 tonnes are not uncommon, and readily achievable. By coating all four faces of the mold, dimensional stability is retained throughout the campaign, leading to sustained and effective product shape and shell growth through consistent heat transfer. By not wearing appreciably, longer campaigns are possible between mold exchange, achieving high caster availability. In addition, the protection offered by the coating gives extended copper plate life, resulting in annual copper savings and delivering significant reductions in both on and off-line maintenance costs.
