Universal Metal Preparation Electrode

ExoTrode

®

WELDING • May be used as both a cutting and chamfering electrode • For use with both AC or DC power sources • Exothermic coating concentrates the arc force without over heating • Quick strike and re-strike properties • Ideal for in-plant or in the field

DESCRIPTION:

WELDING PARAMETERS:

Exotrode is specially designed to prepare welding surfaces by chamfering, gouging, cutting and piercing, can be used on all metals and is ideal for diffi cult-to-get to locations. Use AC or DC power sources. No supplementary gas, compressed air or special electrode holder required.

• With DC, use straight polarity.

TECHNICAL DATA:

• To chamfer and gouge: Point electrode in direction of travel use at an angle of not more than 30° with the plane of the work. Strike an arc. Push electrode along, quickly for a shallow chamfer, more slowly or with a weaving motion for a deeper gouge.

Polarity: AC or DCEN (-)

• To cut: Hold electrode at 45° angle and strike an arc. Push and pull.

Recommended Amperages

• To pierce: Hold electrode vertically and strike.

WARNING Protect yourself and others. Read and understand this warning. THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS CHROMIUM AND/OR NICKEL which are listed by OSHA, NTP, or IARC as being a carcinogen or potential carcinogen. Use of this product may expose you or others to fumes and gases at levels exceeding those established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). READ AND COMPLY WITH THE OSHA PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LIMITS FOR HEXAVALENT CHROMIUM (CrVi), Fed. Reg. 71-10099. MANGANESE & RELATED COMPOUNDS SUCH AS MANGANESE DIOXIDE: Overexposure to manganese and its compounds may cause metal fume fever characterized by chills, fever, upset stomach, vomiting, irritation of the throat and aching of the body. Excessive overexposure may affect the central nervous system. Symptoms may include muscular weak ness and tremors. Behavioral changes and changes in handwriting may also appear. Workers exposed to manganese and its compounds should receive quarterly medical examinations of early detection of manganese poisoning. FUMES AND GASES can be dangerous to your health. Certain medical studies have suggested that NERVOUS SYSTEM and/or LUNG DAMAGE can result from exposure to welding fumes and gases through the use of some electrodes. ARC RAYS can injure eyes and burn skin. ELECTRIC SHOCK can kill. • Before use, read and understand the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), the manufacturer’s instructions, and follow your employer’s safety practices • Keep your head out of the fumes. • Use enough ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing zone and the general area. Respirators may be needed and should be chosen by the employer based on workplace conditions and contaminant levels. For information regarding a respiratory protection program, see OSHA 1910.134 requirements. • Wear correct eye, ear, and body protection. • Do not touch live electrical parts. • In case of medical emergency, call for medical aid. •See American National Standard Z49.1, Safety in Welding and Cutting, published by the American Welding Society, 550 N.W. LeJeune Road, Miami, FL 33135; and OSHA Safety and Health Standards, 29CFR 1910, available from the U.S. Government Printing Office, Superintendent of Documents, P.O.
