CASTROL-OILED FORD DRIVER MARK WINTERBOTTOM WINS IN DARWIN Castrol-backed Ford Pepsi Max Crew’s Mark Winterbottom has claimed the team’s fourth-straight Sunday race win after holding off a fast-finishing Shane van Gisbergen at the Darwin 400 - Round 6 of the V8 Supercars Championship. Frosty started 10th on the grid but made the most of a bold strategy which saw him start and remain on soft tyres for the entire 69-lap race. The win and other results have increased his points lead to 161 and makes it back-to-back Sunday wins in Darwin. “It was an incredible race with so many differing tyre strategies,” said Frosty. “I finally got a good start and early on it was nice to see our cars 1-2-3. We were much better on softs and the day was all about tyre management.
STRENGTH FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE
“It obviously isn’t as big as Bathurst but I think it is my best win with this team. Bathurst was just a two-car dog fight, this race had a lot of strategy and I had to pass a lot of cars and really manage the tyres to make it all work.
2014 V8 Supercars Standings
“It was my first big strategy win with my engineer Grant (McPherson) so it feels great. On the last lap I was sliding sideways and Shane (van Gisbergen) stuck his nose in and I was a bit out of control. To come down to the last lap makes it pretty special.” Other top results from Castrol crews saw FPR teammate Dave Reynolds come home in fourth while James Moffat and Rick Kelly produced top 10 results in their Castrol-oiled Nissan Altimas. Moffat started down in 22nd position, but despite his cool suit failing early in the race and battling cabin temperatures of close to 60 degrees, he claimed a seventh place finish. Rick Kelly’s ninth place was aided by his team’s strategy yesterday to save a set of tyres for today’s 200km race. While he had a strong bank of rubber, he used it faultlessly, scoring his first top 10 since New Zealand.

“This was no doubt one of the most thrilling and action-packed races at Le Mans. For us, it was also one of the most difficult ones and that’s why, in my personal ranking of emotions, it takes one of the top spots, said Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport) “The whole week was a period of many highs and lows for us. And during the 24 hours every car was running in front at least once. In the first two thirds of the race, it was our rivals and in the final third we worked our way towards the front. This can only be achieved with a very special team performance. The combination of an efficient concept and a team of strong drivers, who extract the best from it – that was the key to success.” In the hectic first hours, the fascinating Le Mans prototypes of Audi, Porsche and Toyota were fighting captivating duels on the Le Mans high-speed circuit that kept the spectators in awe.he fans experienced one of the most gripping races in Le Mans history until noon on Sunday. The decision in favour of Audi was only made in the penultimate hour.

POSITIVE OUTING FOR CASTROL TEAM HAHN RACING AT NOGARO Castrol Team Hahn Racing enjoyed a great weekend in the third round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship in front of a 36,000-strong crowd in Nogaro. After a slightly disappointing round in Navarra, Jochen Hahn and Castrol Team Hahn Racing showed why they are reigning champions by rallying to clinch three podium finishes – including a victory – in the actionpacked event at the French circuit. It was a hot, muggy weekend, with temperatures around 26°C, but that didn’t deter the drivers. Hahn began the event by taking third place in qualifying and superpole on Saturday, finishing just behind Kiss and Albacete. Race one proved to be another three-way battle between the truck-racing heavyweights, with Antonio Albacete grabbing the win ahead of Norbert Kiss and Castrol Team Racing’s Jochen Hahn.
With the top-eight finishers from race one starting in reverse order for race two, Jochen Hahn had to start from 6th place. But despite the narrow track, Jochen quickly battled his way through the pack to finish 2nd behind Adam LAcko, but crucially, ahead of his two main rivals Kiss and Albacete. At Sunday morning’s qualifying and superpole, Jochen managed to put in a blisteringly fast lap to take pole position, And after an imperious performance he scored an impressive win in race three. With the reverse grid for race four, Jochen had to start in 8th place, and overtaking proved a bit more difficult this time around. After making up three positions, Jochen eventually had to settle for 5th in the final race. It was a great weekend for Castrol Team Hahn, with Jochen Hahn scoring more points than any other driver over the weekend,
meaning he edges a little closer to Kiss and Albacete in the drivers’ standings.

FANS GEAR UP FOR THE INAUGURAL CASTROL TOWNSVILLE 500 Less than two weeks remain as the countdown to the inaugural Castrol Townsville 500 kick starts in North Queensland on July 4. The event will turn to the Super Street V8 Supercars race format which sees two 125km races on Saturday followed by a monster 250km race on Sunday which is sure to buzz the Queensland crowd. This year we see a change in tyre format with the event running exclusively on the hard compound dunlop tyre. Unlike last year (which saw a combination of soft and hard compound) this year will spice up some new strategies throughout the paddock. All the action will be live on the 7 network July 5 and 6. Check local guides for further details. Located just south of the Townsville CBD, the circuit winds its way through Reid Park where specially constructed roads from approximately 70 of the circuit. Set in a parkland style reminiscent of the Albert Park street circuit in Melbourne, the Townsville circuit proved to be a challenge in its inaugural year in 2009 and quickly became a favourite of the drivers. 2013 Highlight: Last year Townsville saw the Holden Racing Team end their winless drought, which stretched back to Bathurst 2011, when Garth Tander headed a 1-2 finish. Coincidently Ford Performance Racing completed a 1-2 in Saturday’s race. It was the first time in V8 Supercars history that Ford and Holden claimed 1-2 finishes at the same meeting.
